Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
5th Session
41st Parliament
A
Remember
for
Chilliwack
Kent
Thank
You
mr.
speaker
at
the
beginning
of
February,
which
seems
like
an
eternity
ago.
Now
there
was
a
major
weather
event
throughout
the
Lower
Mainland
that
caused
significant
damage
in
the
rural
areas
of
my
riding
hemlock
Valley
Road
that
leads
to
the
popular
ski
destination,
known
as
Sasquatch.
Mountain
resort
was
completely
washed
out
for
more
than
a
kilometer
cutting
off
hundreds
of
skiers
in
the
middle
of
their
recreation.
A
Just
north
of
Harrison
hot
springs,
Trout
Lake
Creek
jumped
its
banks
and
made
a
detour
down
Rockwell
Drive,
destroying
the
road
and
trapping
residents.
The
response
to
these
local
disasters
was
extraordinary
resorts
staff
and
local
hemlock.
Valley
residents
made
sure
that
everyone
had
plenty
of
food
and
a
place
to
stay
supplies
were
flown
in
and
some
tourists
were
flown
out
by
helicopter
email.
Anderson
construction
began
working
immediately
and
within
three
days
and
that
over
a
weekend
they
had
the
road
open
to
alternating
traffic.
A
A
couple
of
days
after
the
Rockwell
Drive
disaster,
local
residents
gathered
to
talk
and
I
went
to
meet
them.
Rockwell
Drive
was
impassable,
I
had
to
walk
in
heavy
equipment
was
everywhere
and
email.
Anderson
was
once
again
working
quickly
to
restore
the
road,
as
well
as
the
area's
potable
water
I
found
resilient
people
reaching
out
to
help
their
neighbors
and
I
reached
out
to
government
on
their
behalf,
I
want
to
thank
email
Anderson
for
its
rapid
response,
quality
work
and
for
listening
to
local
residents.
A
I
also
want
to
thank
two
volunteers:
Brian
Murphy
of
the
hemlock
Valley
residents,
Association
and
Roy
molnár,
who
lives
in
Rockwell
Drive,
provided
leadership
and
worked
with
government
to
make
sure
that
everyone
was
safe
and
services
restored
as
soon
as
possible.
I
also
want
to
thank
provincial
Ministry
of
Transportation
officials,
who
saw
the
need
and
spent
several
million
dollars
to
repair
both
of
these
areas.
As
we
have
seen
during
the
Cova
crisis.
It's
good
to
know
that
when
a
disaster
occurs
in
BC,
we
care
about
each
other.
