Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
5th Session
41st Parliament
A
Number
four
shoosh
whoa.
Well,
thank
you
mr.speaker
today.
It
gives
me
great
pleasure
to
rise
and
share
without
some
extraordinary
work
being
done
by
some
of
my
constituents
who
have
found
a
way
to
give
back
to
the
community,
even
while
experiencing
the
challenges
of
Kovan
19.
The
Sorrento
Center,
located
along
the
banks
of
Shuswap
Lake
in
Sorrento,
is
a
popular
destination
that
is
used
for
retreats
conferences
and
other
events,
as
well
as
camping
and
dining.
Like
many
spaces
of
this
nature
are
quickly
found
itself
unable
to
operate
as
normal.
A
Now
soon,
after
the
onset
of
the
pandemic,
the
Sorrento
Center
helped
convene
an
emergency
coalition
of
more
than
50
groups,
including
public
health
officials,
local
governments,
social
agencies,
women's
shelters,
homeless,
shelters
and
community
organizations
such
as
the
Salvation
Army
to
glabra.
To
collaborate
on
how
to
meet
the
needs
of
the
community,
which
included,
increasing
growing
food
food
insecurity.
Now,
since
last
week
of
March,
the
Sorrento
Center's
prepared
more
than
6000
quality,
nutritious
meals
for
those
in
need.
A
At
an
average
of
140
a
day,
the
team
works
with
its
partners
to
distribute
meals
throughout
the
Shuswap
area,
including
the
city
of
Salmon
Arm.
The
Sorrento
Center
had
two
key
goals
at
the
start
of
the
meal
program.
Tact
quickly.
In
order
to
respond
to
the
urgency
in
this
situation
and
to
make
sure
that
feud's
is
food
distributed
to
the
community
would
be
healthy
and
nutritious.
