From YouTube: JUNE 23 2020 Statements Mitzi Dean
Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
5th Session
41st Parliament
A
Remember
Esquimalt
Metchosin
will
speaker.
June
is
Pride
Month
an
event
steeped
in
history
that
carries
with
it
joy,
pain,
anger
and
profound
importance
for
so
many
people
in
BC
each
year.
Recent
protests
are
a
critical
reminder
of
the
ongoing
struggle
for
equality
and
how
Pride
Month
came
about
from
a
history
rooted
in
protests
led
by
black
and
Hispanic
LGBTQ
2's
plus
activists.
A
Even
as
we
acknowledge
the
progress
LGBTQ
2's
plus
people
have
fought
for
I
appreciate
how
far
we
still
have
to
go
to
make
sure
that
all
of
us
have
the
right
to
be
who
we
are
without
fear
and
stigma,
regardless
of
the
color
of
our
skin,
gender
identity
or
sexual
orientation.
To
start,
we
need
to
recognize
the
LGBTQ,
as
plus
people
continue
to
face
discrimination,
violence
and
harassment
disproportionately,
which
also
generates
much
higher
rates
of
poverty,
mental
health
issues
and
other
complex
challenges
for
people
of
color
and
indigenous
peoples.
A
There
are
even
more
systemic
prejudice
and
barriers
to
overcome
joining
together.
We
must
condemn
acts
of
intimidation
and
violence,
fueled
by
prejudice
and
together
we
can
show
our
commitment
to
inclusion
and
diversity
today,
I
ask
you
to
reimagine
what
you
can
do
to
honor
and
celebrate
Pride
and
diversity
in
your
community.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
