Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
1st Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
abbotsford
south.
Thank
you,
mr
speaker.
I
rise
today
to
speak
of
a
local
society
and
my
constituency
of
abbotsford
south
the
alder
grove
heritage
society.
This
volunteer-run
museum
and
community
archives
runs
out
of
a
1910
mills,
prefab
building
built
building
built
by
frederick
j
hart
of
famed
burnaby
heart
house.
A
The
past
year
has
been
one
of
great
challenge,
for
the
society
depends
on
membership
dues
and
donations
for
95
percent
of
its
income,
not
being
able
to
hold
its
usual
number
of
events
or
welcome.
Visitors
has
been
very
costly
indeed,
while
the
society
was
able
to
take
advantage
of
a
small
heritage,
canada,
small
museum,
coveted
grant
operating
grants
for
large
for
small
non-government-owned
museums
are
not
only
difficult
to
obtain,
but
nearly
always
won
by
larger
museums.
So
I'm
told
the
alder
grove
heritage.
A
Society
has
no
paid
staff
and
the
museum
is
run
by
volunteers,
most
of
which
have
outside
jobs
as
a
long-time
resident
of
abbotsford
with
a
long
family
history
in
the
fraser
valley.
I
believe
it
is
important
that
these
smaller
groups
and
facilities
be
recognized
for
the
important
part
they
play
in
the
preservation
of
our
history,
making
these
collections
accessible
for
the
enjoyment
and
education
of
present
and
future
generations
in
the
community
in
which
they
serve.
A
I
thank
the
alder
grove
heritage
society
for
their
continued
work
and
urge
all
members
of
this
house
to
seek
them
out
on
your
social
media
to
support
their
efforts
in
this
pandemic
and,
if
you're,
looking
for
no
worthy
donation,
I'm
sure
they'd
be
happy
to
take
a
check
from
you
as
well.
Thank
you
very
much,
mr
speaker.
