Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
2nd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
richmond
north
centre,
I
rise
in
this
house
on
wasaki
and
the
day
before
the
beginning
of
ramadan
to
speak
on
an
issue.
That's
very
close
to
my
heart
and
the
hearts
of
many
british
colombians
on
sunday
march
28th.
I
took
part
in
the
stop
asian
hay
rally
on
the
front
steps
of
the
vancouver
art
gallery
to
remember
the
life's
loss
in
the
horrific
events
that
took
place
in
atlanta
and
to
stand
against
the
rise
in
hate
crimes
perpetrated
against
asian
canadians.
A
A
For
nearly
a
decade,
canada
saw
an
increasing
number
of
incidents
of
racism
and
hate
crimes
against
our
muslim
and
jewish
communities,
and
our
society
continues
to
grabble
with
racism
towards
the
black
and
indigenous
communities
as
well.
For
people
of
color,
our
duty
as
british
colombian,
is
to
fight
against
the
spread
of
hate
and
misinformation,
especially
in
these
challenging
times.
A
This
is
why,
after
consultation
with
many
multicultural
individuals
and
organizations,
I
decided
to
submit
a
proclamation
to
make
may
29
this
year
an
every
year,
anti-racism
education
day
by
creating
an
annual
day
for
anti-racism
education,
a
day
to
teach
and
promote
tolerance
and
acceptance
across
british
columbia
and
to
identify
all
forms
of
structural,
systemic
and
institutional
racism.
We
can
put
our
words
into
action
in
less
than
48
hours,
a
petition
to
support
this
proclamation
has
garnered
over
2
000
and
the
numbers
rising,
including
support
from
over
100
chinese
jewish
punjabi.
A
Filipino
vietnamese
and
countless
other
associations
representing
over
20
000
members.
British
colombians
are
sending
us
a
clear
message:
they
want
to
see
our
home
become
apartments
that
gives
our
children
and
their
children
the
same
opportunities,
regardless
of
their
skin
color
of
religious
beliefs.
I
know
this
is
a
goal
share
by
all
members
of
this
house,
but
we
need
your
support
for
this
proclamation
to
come
into
effect.
