Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
2nd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Thank
you,
mr
speaker.
This
morning
I
would
like
to
speak
on
behalf
of
fish
wildlife
and
habitat,
as
I've
done
in
this
house
many
times
before.
Recently,
I
met
up
with
representatives
of
the
bc,
fish,
wildlife
and
habitat
coalition
here
in
bc.
That
represents
an
incredible
275
thousand
members
and
over
one
thousand
businesses.
A
Mr
speaker,
how
is
it
such
a
large
coalition
representing
such
a
diverse
group
of
members
such
as
hunters,
environmentalists,
guides
trappers?
Land
conservationists
can
put
their
differences
aside
and
work
together
as
one
without
beating
each
other
up.
The
reason
is
simple
and
that
nothing
brings
people
together
more
than
a
crisis.
A
The
message
from
this
coalition
and
for
myself
is
that
we
need
more
non-partisan
collaboration
to
help
nature.
To
illustrate
mr
speaker,
I
can
lean
on
some
statistics
that
show
in
1991
bc
spent
4.9
percent
of
its
budget
on
renewable
resource
management
by
2001
3.3
percent
1.6
percent,
and
in
2021
it's
just
1.4
percent.
Surely
the
health
of
our
natural
assets
is
worthy
of
more
than
1.4
percent
of
our
taxpayer
dollars.
Rebuilding
resilient
forests
means
returning
our
renewable
resource
management
budget
to
five
percent.
A
Without
a
reasonable
financial
commitment,
it
is
impossible
to
move
forward
the
objectives
of
this
fish
wildlife.
Habitat
coalition,
are
to
one
position:
fish
wildlife
and
habitat
into
outcome-based
legislation,
two
review
and
modernize
other
related
legislation,
three
increase
and
dedicate
funding,
and,
finally,
four
work
toward
a
new
governance
model,
which
everyone
can
see
themselves
in
incorporating
local
input,
regional
landscape
planning
and
a
land
manager
making
operational
decisions
locally.
