Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
2nd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Thank
you
very
much
honorable
speaker
during
the
pandemic.
Seniors
in
long-term
care
were
isolated
from
their
families
to
keep
them
and
the
loved
ones
safe,
and
one
of
my
dear
friends,
michelle
bourdain,
was
unable
to
visit
her
mother
for
over
a
year
joan
gable
lives
in
hollywood,
manor
in
maple
ridge
and
suffers
from
dementia,
and
it's
hard
enough.
It
was
hard
enough
to
take
care
of
families
with
dementia,
but
not
being
able
to
give
them
a
hug
or
reassure
them,
and
it
was
so
much
harder
during
the
pandemic
and
that's
why
it's
so
important.
A
The
work
that's
being
done
by
the
maple
ridge,
dementia
friendly
community
task
force
receiving
a
dementia
diagnosis,
leaves
many
people
feeling
isolated
and
unsure
and
in
our
community
we're
very
fortunate
to
have
a
dedicated
and
active
group
addressing
the
needs
of
those
living
with
dementia.
The
task
group
is
made
up
of
individuals,
service
providers
and
staff
from
the
city,
and
it
focuses
on
reducing
stigma
around
dementia
and
building
an
inclusive
community.
A
I
especially
would
like
to
recognize
task
group
member
heather
trelliven
now
heather
was
chosen
as
an
honorary
for
the
tri-cities
ridge
meadows
ig,
wealth
management,
walk
for
alzheimer's
fundraiser
and
for
the
past
10
years,
heather
has
served
as
the
coordinator
of
the
maple
ridge,
pitt
meadows,
kc
seniors
network
working
hard
to
make
sure
that
the
voices
of
seniors
and
people
with
dementia
are
heard.
