Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
2nd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Thank
you,
mr
speaker.
When
you
look
up
the
word
cowboy,
you
will
see
willie
christina's
picture
beside
the
word
every
time
I
run
across
this
fellow.
He
is
surrounded
by
friends
and
family
and
very
often
admirers.
You
might
see
him
at
an
auction
or
a
rodeo
with
rodeo
royalty
surrounding
him,
a
rancher,
a
cowboy,
a
rodeo
clown
and,
of
course,
a
long
time,
rodeo
announcer.
He
is
also
the
owner
of
what
once
was
the
beloved
shop
known
as
willy's
western
wear.
A
There
is
no
question
that
willie
has
been
an
immersed
in
our
western
culture
for
his
entire
life
and
recently
the
mark
he
made
on
the
sport
that
was
forever
written
into
the
history
books
when
willie
was
inducted
into
the
cowboy
hall
of
fame
in
2019
and
to
add
to
all
of
this,
he
is
for
certain
one
of
the
most
beloved
97
year
old
characters
and
community
members
that
we
have
in
the
cariboo
chilcotin
speaker.
He
is
still
active
and
just
returned
from
his
44th
annual
nfr
trip.
A
It
was
my
absolute
honor
to
present
a
certificate
to
willie
at
his
97th
birthday
a
few
months
back
and
thank
him
for
the
work
he
does
both
for
rodeo
and
for
our
community.
He
is,
without
a
doubt,
a
caribou,
chilcotin,
icon
and
a
man.
I
am
proud
to
count
as
a
friend
for
everyone
in
the
cariboo
chilton
and,
of
course,
all
of
us
here
at
the
bc
legislature.
