The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
2nd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Thank
you,
honorable
speaker.
It's
a
time
again
where
I
get
to
share
just
a
little
piece
of
the
reason
that
I
love
my
home
of
chilliwackend.
Today.
I
want
to
introduce
you
all
to
the
chilliwack
vetter
river
cleanup
society.
The
society
was
started
by
local
anglers
in
2002
to
protect
and
care
for
the
waterways.
We
love
so
much.
The
society
is
entirely
volunteer
and
engages
in
a
range
of
activities,
including
adopt
a
river
and
two
large
scale,
annual
cleanups
every
year
in
april
on
earth
day
and
in
september
for
bc.
Rivers
day.
A
So
what
can
the
incredible
anglers,
volunteers
and
partners
of
our
community
accomplish
when
they
combine
their
passion,
energy
and
environmental
stewardship?
Well,
mr
speaker,
since
2002
over
6
000
volunteers
have
given
over
27
or
almost
27
000
hours
of
effort
and
have
cleaned
up
over
129
metric
tons
of
garbage
from
the
chilliwack
river
valley
and
better
river
riparian
areas,
that's
a
lot
of
garbage,
most
of
which
is
a
result
of
illegal
dumping
or
irresponsible.
Recreating
which
brings
me
to
the
message
they
wanted
to
share.
