Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
2nd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
first
south
well,
thank
you,
mr
speaker.
I've
added
something
new
to
my
constituency
work
this
year
with
the
collaboration
of
two
students
from
southridge
school,
nora
zu
and
eric
gao.
I
have
established
a
youth
council.
The
other
members
now
include
winnie
ma,
sachin
dat,
maya
gallant,
john
soon
and
india
povi
it's
student-led.
It's
a
non-partisan
group
that
aims
to
engage
youth
in
politics
and
provide
them
with
an
opportunity
to
share
their
views,
concerns
about
issues
that
are
affecting
british
columbians
through
monthly
discussions.
A
The
second
discussion
focused
on
lgbtq
issues,
and
for
that
conversation
the
council
engaged
dr
jennifer
marchbank,
professor
of
gender
sexuality
and
women's
studies
at
simon
fraser
university,
a
former
constituent
of
mine
and
hannah
hudson,
who
had
previously
worked
here
in
this
legislature
with
the
bc
liberal
caucus
and
is
now
working
in
ottawa.
Most
recently
was
a
candidate
in
the
2021
federal
election.
A
An
in-person
discussion
was
also
held
during
the
summer.
Complete
with
frozen
yogurt,
where
the
youth
council
shared
their
views
on
vaccine
passports
and
a
return
to
school,
the
youth
council
is
hoping
to
continue
hosting
discussions
on
topics
that
affect
young
people,
the
next,
of
course,
being
mental
health
and
through
the
year.
They
also
hope
to
do
some
projects
in
service
of
the
community,
and
I
look
forward
to
helping
them
with
those.
A
I
believe
that
a
good
political
system
should
be
representative
of
all
members
of
society,
engaging
the
next
generation
of
leaders
to
introduce
them
to
the
political
process
and
the
complexity
of
creating
policy
solutions
to
address
societal
issues.
I'm
thoroughly
impressed
with
this
group
of
bright
young
leaders,
and
I
appreciate
the
time
they're
spending,
sharing
their
thoughts
with
me
as
the
representative.
Thank
you,
mr
speaker.
