The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
These
specialists
and
family
care
are
the
first
line
of
defense
for
our
health
and
they
partner
with
patients
over
the
course
of
their
lives.
This
doctor-patient
relationship
is
central
to
the
work
of
family
physicians
and
it
allows
them
to
provide
quality
and
comprehensive
care.
Family
doctors
specialize
in
the
health
of
their
patients
working
in
concert
with
other
health
care
professionals
and
specialists
to
ensure
that
each
patient's
individual
needs
are
met.
A
Crucially,
family
doctors
also
serve
an
important
role
in
proactive
care
and
preventive
med
medicine,
helping
to
prevent
more
serious
injuries
or
conditions
and
minimizing
the
need
for
expensive
invasive
treatment.
At
a
later
date.
Our
family
doctors
have
continued
to
practice
throughout
the
pandemic,
adapting
to
new
ways
of
meeting
with
their
patients
and
working
hard
to
continue
the
continuity
of
care
that
makes
family
physicians
so
vital.
A
We
know
that
for
many
reasons,
including
growing
administrative
burdens,
it
is
increasingly
challenging
to
be
a
family
doctor.
In
british
columbia,
and
today
we
recognize
the
need
for
continued
investments
in
primary
care
and
thoughtful
honest
discussion
going
forward
with
more
people
moving
to
bc
every
day.
There
is
a
growing
need
for
family
doctors
and
to
meet
this
demand.
We
must
ensure
we
are
working
to
train,
recruit
and
retain
more
primary
care
providers
and
that
a
family
practice
is
a
career
that
people
want
to
choose
this
morning.
