Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
kelowna
mission-
thank
you
honorable
speaker,
a
two-minute
walk
from
my
front
door
in
kelowna.
I
can
find
fresh
air.
Warm
breeze.
Rustling
leaves
the
crunch
of
branches
underfoot
the
view
of
the
lake,
the
sights
of
the
valley,
the
sun.
On
my
face,
and
I
restore
a
part
of
my
soul
recently,
I
heard
an
indigenous
woman
speak
of
how
desperately
we
needed
our
earth
and
yet
how
our
earth
did
not
need
us.
A
A
We
heard
her
cries
as
the
heat
dried
up
our
plants,
how
the
fires
roared
through
our
forests,
how
our
food
supply
in
the
sumas
prairie
was
threatened
further
by
floods
and
how
those
flood
waters
change
the
landscape
forever.
With
the
warning
signs
of
climate
change
all
around
us,
we
need
to
listen
to
mother
earth's
warnings.
A
This
earth
day
reminds
us.
There
is
much
work
to
do.
The
theme
of
invest
in
our
planet
needs
to
be
heard
and
offers
an
opportunity
for
all
to
look
at
what
we
can
do
both
on
an
individual
level
as
well
as
a
collective
society.
We
need
to
continually
move
forward
to
a
more
sustainable
tomorrow
and
work
for
a
better
future
for
all
our
earth
is
groaning
and
we
need
to
pay
heed.
I
leave
you
with
the
words
of
emily
dickinson
in
her
poem.
Nature
is
what
we
see.
