Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
protectant-
thank
you
honorable
speaker.
It's
the
most
wonderful
time
of
year,
no
I'm
not
talking
about
Christmas
we're
still
a
little
ways
away
from
that
I'm
talking
about
apple
season.
Well,
unfortunately,
about
three
weeks
late,
locally
grown
apples
are
widely
available
right
now,
so
I
encourage
everybody
to
take
advantage,
enjoy
the
many
varieties
grown
here
in
British,
Columbia
and
I
want
to
thank
our
tree,
Fruit,
Growers
and
other
Fruit
and
Berry
growers
in
the
Okanagan
region
and
Beyond
we'll
put
a
tremendous
amount
of
work
and
Care
into
this
year's
crop.
A
We
all
know
that
recent
climate
events
have
created
a
lot
of
challenges
for
farmers
and
Growers
throughout
our
Province
heat
waves.
Drought
conditions
ended
up
scorching,
some
of
the
crops
and
taking
a
toll
on
the
soil.
Last
year's
heat
Dome
also
led
to
a
very
much
lighter
crop
in
Harvest
this
year.
Meanwhile,
heavy
rains
and
Atmospheric
Rivers
put
some
of
the
plants
right
underwater.
These
events
not
only
damage
the
crops,
they
damage
the
structures,
equipment
and
vital
infrastructure,
as
farmers
and
Growers
struggle
to
fully
recover
from
these
damages
and
losses.
