Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
A
I
want
my
time
back,
so
this
is
how
we
tell
our
stories
and
I'd
like
to
tell
you
the
story
of
a
of
a
couple
of
people
from
nanaimo.
A
leilam
is
a
second
generation
coast,
salish
design
house
from
nanaimo.
It's
run
by
two
sisters
who
design
and
produce
clothing
with
fabrics
in
the
patterns
featuring
traditional
coast,
salish,
art
produced
by
their
father,
william
good
and
their
brother,
joel
good
of
the
sunemu
first
nation,
their
mother
sandra
moorhouse
good,
had
the
very
first
coast,
salish
clothing
line
called
aamut
in
the
1990s.
A
They
are
committed
to
sustainability,
ethical
practices
and
following
cultural
product
protocols,
while
their
ready-to-made
wear
line
is
produced
in
vancouver
and
their
couture
garments
are
made
by
hand
on
sunamu
territory.
Mr
speaker
they've
shown
across
north
america
at
vancouver
fashion
week
and
most
recently
at
new
york
fashion
week,
and
that
was
just
no
small
trip.
A
In
fact,
their
warehouse
was
destroyed
by
a
fire
last
summer,
90
percent
of
their
stock,
all
of
their
artwork
all
of
their
samples
destroyed,
and
it
was
the
community
rallying
around
them,
plus
a
recovery
grant
from
this
government
that
helped
them
produce
more
goods
and
get
to
new
york
and
get
to
that
show,
and
so,
mr
speaker,
in
the
end,
you
know,
they've
won
indigenous
business
of
the
year
awards
they've
won.
They
were
top
five
in
the
small
business
bc
awards.
