Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
city
guilford,
thank
you
honorable
speaker,
unconscious
bias,
is
associations
or
attitudes
that
reflexively
alter
our
perceptions,
thereby
unintentionally
affecting
our
behaviors
interactions
and
decision
making
ridding
ourselves
of
our
unconscious
biases
may
seem
to
be
somewhat
antithetical
to
the
work
that
we
do
here
in
this
house
every
day.
Think
about
that
for
a
second.
A
This
issue
does
not
improve.
If
we
choose
to
ignore
it
or,
what's
worse,
deny
it.
Some
of
the
best
work
done
in
this
house
is
done
in
committees
where,
to
at
least
some
degree,
we're
forced
to
sharpen
our
critical
thinking,
skills,
to
shed
our
political
labels
and
to
cooperate
and
collaborate
on
outcomes.
A
Critical
thinking
is
to
be
rational,
reasonable
and
empathetic
and,
on
occasion,
upon
evidence
to
change
our
minds
for
the
past
two
years,
I've
been
privileged
to
be
part
of
the
special
committee
on
reforming
the
police
act,
a
group
which
I
honor
today
as
being
an
example
that
we
all
can
aspire
to.
Our
report
will
be
tabled
later
this
week
today.
I
publicly
acknowledge
the
hard
work
of
the
committee
comprised
of
an
amazing
group
of
legislators
who
are
truly
critical
thinkers
and
who
truly
reason
at
the
highest
level
of
quality
in
a
fair-minded
way.
A
Please
join
me
in
thanking
the
chair,
the
member

for

west

victoria
beacon

the
islands
monashie
and

timbers.
Thank
you,
mr
speaker.
