Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
richmond
north
center.
Thank
you,
mr
speaker.
I'm
pleased
to
rise
today
to
express
my
sincere
gratitude
to
the
jewish
federation
of
greater
vancouver
and
the
center
for
israel
and
jews
affairs
shita
and
to
congratulate
them
for
another
successful
yom
asmod
or
independence
day
celebration.
A
A
Through
events
like
this,
I
have
been
fortunate
to
learn
much
about
the
jewish
community
and
celebrate
the
jews
heritage
month
and
their
rich
history.
However,
we
must
also
refresh
on
the
hatred
this
community
has
faced
both
within
our
province
and
around
the
world,
the
jewish
community.
Here
in
british
columbia
experienced
an
111
percent
increase
in
anti-semitic
incidents
between
2020
and
2021
and
across
canada.
A
The
number
of
violent
anti-jews
hate
crimes
rose
by
733
percent.
In
the
face
of
such
horrific
acts,
I'm
proud
to
stand
with
our
strong
jewish
community
as
we
celebrate
their
contributions
to
our
great
province
and
show
there's
no
space
for
violence,
hatred,
bigotry
or
anti-semitism
in
our
communities.
Thank
you,
mr
speaker.
