Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
Courtney
Comox,
Mr
Speaker,
a
national
important
bird
area,
commox
Bay,
has
long
been
recognized
for
its
abundant
wintering
and
migratory
waterfowl
and,
as
the
bay
gives
way
to
the
Estuary,
you
can
see
ancient
fish
Weirs
that
feed
fed
salmon
to
many
thousands
of
indigenous
people,
reminding
us
that
the
First
Nations
name
for
this
place
is
Comox
the
Land
of
Plenty.
Over
20
years
ago,
archeology
student
Nancy
green,
along
with
her
partner,
David
McGee,
brought
respect
and
cultural
sensitivity
to
her
study
of
the
Comox
people's
Weirs.
A
Invasive
plants
nearly
took
out
native
species
industry
hardened
Shores
and
even
the
Comox
people's
couscousam
tree
burial
site
was
taken
from
them.
Many
environment
environmentalists
have
cut
their
teeth
on
actions
to
protect
and
restore
this
Rich
environment.
For
instance,
in
the
early
70s
ndpmla
Karen
Sanford
worked
to
purchase
hollyhock
flats
for
the
public
interest
Decades
of
Relentless,
volunteer,
labor
removed
in
face
of
purple
loose
drive
so
that
the
endangered
native
Henderson
Checker
mallow,
could
Thrive.
A
Don't
miss
the
televised
clean
BC
ad
that
features
the
couscous
some
project
honoring
the
sites
past
three
burials
Kevin
mcphail
and
his
wife
Petra
joined
other
volunteers
to
plant
Sitka,
spruce
trees.
This
past
weekend
the
restoration
continues,
as
does
reconciliation
with
the
work
to
return
couscous
some
to
the
Comox
First
Nation.
Thank
you.
Mr
Speaker
and
Mr
Speaker
I
seek
leave
to
finish
my
introduction,
because
I
failed
to
mention
my
brother's
name
is
leave
granted
proceed.
A
I
have
two
brothers,
so
I
thought
it
would
probably
be
good
for
me
to
mention
that
the
my
brother,
who
just
turned
65
as
Corey
Randolph,
Leonard
and
he's
very
much
alive
today,
thanks
to
our
Public
Health
Care
system.
So
once
again,
thank
you,
everyone
for
wishing
him
a
happy
birthday.
