Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
charlotte,
thank
you,
mr
speaker,
today,
I'm
honored
to
acknowledge,
may
29th
and
june
to
june
4th
as
accessibility
week
when
government
passed
the
accessible
bc
act.
Almost
a
year
ago,
we
committed
to
helping
people
with
disabilities,
live
with
dignity
by
removing
barriers
and
improving
accessibility
throughout
the
province.
A
The
act
gives
us
the
framework
that
establishes
accountability
from
government
and
allows
us,
with
the
guidance
of
the
provincial
accessibility
committee,
to
develop
new
accessibility
standards
to
address
barriers
in
a
range
of
areas,
because
people
living
with
disabilities
have
a
diverse
range
of
experiences,
ideas
and
abilities.
Their
voices
are
important
and
should
be
heard
as
government
works
to
shape
the
policies
and
regulations
that
impact
their
day-to-day
lives.
A
It's
a
chance
to
thank
people
with
disabilities,
their
advocates
and
organizations
that
consistently
go
above
and
beyond
to
raise
awareness
about
what
what
each
of
us
can
do
to
make
our
province
more
inclusive,
building
a
more
accessible
and
inclusive
bc.
Isn't
just
a
government
responsibility,
it's
the
way
to
a
better
future
for
everyone,
because
when
we
remove
unnecessary
barriers,
we
create
the
space
for
possibilities.
