Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
4th Session
42nd Parliament
A
A
In
my
riding
yesterday,
an
avalanche
came
down
the
Southwest
of
Invermere
about
30
miles
or
30
kilometers
west
of
southwest
of
intermir,
killing
three
skiers
and
injuring
four
others
who
are
skiing
in
a
group
of
ten
all
from
out
of
out
of
Canada
four
were
injured,
including
including
the
guide
they
were
part
of
an
international
business
visitors,
skiing
at
Panorama,
Mountain,
Resort,
panoramic
ski
patrol
and
local
search
and
rescue
crews
carried
out
the
effort
to
locate
and
free
the
victims
and
work
with
BC
emergency
services
to
get
the
injured
to
hospital.
A
Honorable
speaker,
a
dozen
people
have
died
in
avalanches
in
our
Province
this
year,
making
one
of
the
worst
seasons
and
decades
I
want
to
thank
Avalanche
Canada
for
all
the
work
that
they
do
in
the
the
efforts
that
they
make
to
try
to
prevent
these
things.
When
these
tragedies
occur,
it
shakes
the
entire
Community.
It's
in
that's
a
Columbia
Valley,
which
includes
Canal
Flats,
of
course,
in
Vermeer
all
the
way
up
to
radium.
A
And
I
know
right
now:
there's
deep
sadness,
our
hearts
go
to
the
victims
and
their
loved
ones
and
those
who
survived
the
frightening
event
and
incident.
We
wish
them
quick
recovery
and
I
want
to
thank
the
Helix
skiing
company,
who
was
just
a
consummate
professionals.
The
your
general
manager
worked
for
me
at
Princess
Cruises
and
he's
just
an
amazing
young
man,
SARS
Panorama
ski
resort,
the
RCMP,
the
BC
Ambulance
Service,
all
did
a
phenomenal
job
yesterday,
so
I
wish
them
all.
A
A
In
the
mayor
of
invermur
today,
actually
Mark
search
and
rescue
volunteer,
Memorial
Day,
which
happens
on
Mark
second
every
year
to
remember
those
rescues
who
lost
their
lives
in
the
line
of
duty
and
to
recognize
the
volunteers
who
can
continue
to
serve,
although
that,
just
last
month
we
lost
a
search
and
rescue
volunteer
to
an
avalanche.
A
She
was
killed
alongside
another
skier
in
chilcoten
region,
not
on
the
job
but
enjoying
the
back
country
that
she
loved
and
with
her
teammates,
with
Caribou
search
and
rescue
that
had
to
carry
her
out
the
recovery
Mission,
even
the
most
experienced
Backcountry
skier
can
encounter
trouble
and
it's
vital
that
people
check
the
warnings,
carry
the
right
gear,
be
mindful
of
the
dangers
that
come
out
there.
So
I'd
ask
this
house
to
send
their
prayers
to
these
people
today.
Thank
you.
