Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
4th Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
Prince
George
Wilmot.
Thank
you.
Mr
Speaker.
Just
a
few
days
ago,
in
Owens
house,
we
solemnly
acknowledged
the
one-year
anniversary
of
the
invasion
of
Ukraine
by
Vladimir
Putin,
similar
Gatherings
took
place
across
the
province
and
in
Prince
George.
Despite
bitterly
cold
minus
26
degrees,
people
gathered
at
City
Hall
for
a
candlelight
vigil
to
remember
victims
of
the
war
and
to
stand
in
solidarity
with
those
fighting
on
the
front
lines.
A
One
of
participants
said
and
I
quote,
even
though
our
bodies
are
here
in
Canada,
our
souls
are
still
in
Ukraine
end
quote:
Prince
George
residents
have
opened
their
hearts
and
their
homes
to
almost
170
displaced
ukrainians,
with
another
79
inbound
or
in
discussions,
and
those
are
the
ones
we
are
aware
of.
Since
the
beginning
of
the
invasion.
Volunteers
have
worked
tirelessly
to
ensure
that
families
are
greeted
at
the
airport
that
they
have
a
home
to
stay
in
clothing,
Furniture
Transportation,
the
list
of
supports
is
endless,
and
the
generosity
of
our
residence
is
immeasurable.
A
A
None
of
this
would
have
been
possible
without
amazing
volunteers
like
Eva
Gillis,
dick
Minon,
Don
and
Marion
tosco,
Charles,
Scott,
former
MLA
Pat
Bell
and
his
family
and,
of
course,
father
Andre
and
a
host
of
others
I
want
them
to
know
how
grateful
we
are
for
their
ongoing
dedication
and
hard
work.
I
could
not
be
more
proud
of
my
community
and
region,
demonstrating
once
again.
Why
I
absolutely
love
where
I
live
foreign.
