Mr
Speaker
said
Rhode
Island,
Prince,
George
athlete
Joel
ewart
will
be
part
of
the
team,
BC
wheelchair
basketball,
pro
team.
This
will
be
Joel's
third
time
participating
in
the
Canada
Winter
Games,
and
this
time
BC
is
considered
to
be
a
contender
for
the
gold
medal,
pleased
to
report
that
they
won
their
first
game.
Yesterday,
Joel
was
just
15
when
he
played
in
the
2015
Canada
winter
games
that
we
hosted
in
Prince
George
and
also
competed
in
the
games
in
Red
Deer
in
2019..
A
Obviously,
during
the
pandemic,
tournaments
were
and
competitions
were
canceled,
but
2022
was
a
hectic
year
as
Joel
resumed
play
in
wheelchair
basketball
and
wheelchair
rugby
Joel
traveled
internationally,
with
the
Canadians
men's
team
and,
in
fact,
was
co-captain
of
the
team.
The
Canadian
Squad
went
2-1
and
earned
a
spot
in
the
iwbf
under
23
World
Championships
in
Thailand
Joel
was
born
with
Cerebral
Palsy
and
that
affects
his
ability
to
move
and
maintain
his
balance.
A
He
has
already
completed
his
first
degree
in
biomedical
studies
at
UNBC
and
continues
to
study
with
the
goal
of
becoming
a
cardiologist
I
know
that
Joel
would
want
to
recognize
his
family
for
their
tireless
support.
They
have
been
alongside
him
the
entire
way,
cheering
him
on
and
providing
the
support
that
has
helped
him
become
a
highly
successful
world-class
athlete.
Joel
We
want
to
wish
you
and
team
BC
the
very
best
at
the
Canada
Winter
Games,
and
can
continued
success
in
your
athletic
and
educational
goals.
