Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
4th Session
42nd Parliament
A
Thank
you,
honorable
speaker.
If
you
have
been
lucky
enough
to
spend
some
time
in
Chilliwack,
Kent
I
hope
that
you've
had
the
opportunity
to
visit
the
Kent
area,
which
includes
the
small
But
Mighty
Agassi
at
the
foot
of
the
beautiful
Mount
Shem
Kent
also
includes
the
small
But
Mighty
mayor
Sylvia
pringer,
this
past
Saturday
mayor
panger,
laced
up
her
running
shoes,
actually
a
couple
of
pairs
and
set
out
on
a
26
kilometer
Trek
from
Agassi
to
Chilliwack.
A
More
specifically,
the
mayor
left
the
District
of
Kent
Municipal
Hall
and
walked
to
the
closest
indoor
pool
facility
at
the
Landing
Leisure
Center
in
Chilliwack.
Why?
Well
this
walk
and
the
distance
covered
was
to
demonstrate
the
need
for
an
all-season
pool
in
Agassi
and
a
fundraise
so
that
there
is
accessibility
and
inclusivity
for
all
in
order
to
make
the
pool
a
reality.
The
District
of
Kent
has
a
goal
to
fundraise
one
million
dollars
to
be
added
to
provincial
and
federal
grants.
A
Last
year
our
government
committed
9.5
million
dollars
to
the
project,
But
Rising
costs
and
inflation
means
a
little
more
support
is
needed,
and
so
the
community
is
fundraising.
Mayor
pranger
began
the
walk
with
Chief
Andrew
Victor
of
Shem
First
Nation
and
was
met
at
the
End
by
a
city
of
chilak,
Mayor,
Ken
Popov
with
so
many
supporters,
Walkers
businesses
and
volunteers
all
along
the
way
when
I
spoke
with
mayor
pranger
yesterday
to
see
how
her
spirits
and
her
feet
were
feeling
she
shared
that
she
is
so
thankful
to
the
community
in
the
province.
A
A
Its
name
is
letsamat
regional
Aquatic
Center,
the
Hulk
mailum
word
for
let's
Mott
stands
for
one
heart
one
mind
and
the
district
will
be
incorporating
this
concept
into
the
plans
in
the
spirit
of
embracing
all
neighboring
communities
communities,
including
fvrd
Harrison,
Hot,
Springs,
seabird,
Island,
Shem,
First,
Nation,
staleless,
First,
Nation
and
scoutlets
First
Nation,
mayor
pranger's,
walk
raised
an
estimated
estimated
thirty
thousand
dollar
dollars
towards
this
exciting
project,
but
there's
still
more
to
raise.
