Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
4th Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
Maple
Ridge,
Mission-
hey!
It's
me
again
thanks
honorable
speaker,
I
I
hope
that
everyone
is
enjoying
creative
Industries
week,
we're
celebrating
BC
books,
magazines,
music,
film
television,
animation,
VFX
and
video
games.
I
was
incredibly
excited,
as
parametric
secretary
for
arts
and
film
to
hear
this
this
afternoon
about
the
42
million
dollars
in
new
funding
to
create
a
BC
to
ensure
stability
and
growth
in
the
creative
Industries,
including
multi-year
funding
for
the
domestic
Film
Production
fund
amplify
BC
and
BC
books.
A
Now
today,
honorable
speaker
is
the
10th
National
Canadian
film
Day,
celebrating
Canadian
Cinema,
so
I
wanted
to
shine
a
spotlight
on
BC's
Motion
Picture
industry
BC
has
a
robust
and
thriving
film
industry
and
is
one
of
the
largest
Motion
Picture
hubs
in
Canada
and
North
America.
The
strength
of
this
industry
is
BC's
Mighty
Motion
Picture
Workforce,
that
has
an
estimated
2
100
BC
based
Independent
Producers
and
over
88
000
skilled
workers.
Now
film
is
a
powerful
medium
to
communicate
truth
and
Bridge
social
connections.
A
It
also
allows
us
to
showcase
our
Province
to
the
world
BCS
recognize
nationally
and
internationally
as
an
ideal
location
for
filming
with
its
breathtaking
Landscapes,
talented,
Crews
and
strong
production
and
post-production
infrastructure.
Our
government
is
helping
to
secure
BC's
ambient
position
through
competitive
tax
credits
and
grants
that
bring
businesses
to
the
province
and
ensure
a
thriving
domestic
film
industry.
A
It's
it's
an
effort.
That's
actually
paid
off
honorable
speaker,
there's
a
roster
of
high
level
Productions
that
are
currently
filming
in
this
province
and
most
recently,
Vancouver
was
chosen
as
a
location
for
season
two
of
The
Last
of
Us
yeah.
Okay,
one
of
the
biggest
Productions
to
ever
come
to
this
province
is
one
of
the
many
thousands
of
success
stories
for
British
Columbia.
So
let's
recognize
the
national
Canadian
film
day
and
celebrate
our
BC
Motion
Picture
industry.
Thank
you
very
much.
