Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
4th Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
Caribou
north.
Thank
you
very
much.
Mr
Speaker
women
are
taking
on
critical
roles
in
the
mining
sector.
One
such
individual,
who
is
in
the
gallery
today,
is
Emily.
Bailey
Emily
is
a
health
and
safety
coordinator
for
a
Cisco
development
of
the
Caribou
gold
project
in
September
of
2022
Emily
had
the
opportunity
of
competing
with
the
Diamonds
in
the
Rough,
which
is
an
all-female
Canadian
mine,
Rescue
Team.
It
is
a
non-for-profit
that
identifies
women
in
Canada
who
are
trained
in
mine
rescue.
A
They
bring
together
women
Mentor
train
so
that
they
can
take
part
in
rescue
competitions
and
Advance
their
careers
in
mining,
while
promoting
women
and
diversity
in
mining.
So
the
team
traveled
to
Beaver
West
Virginia,
where
they
competed
against
21
teams
from
around
the
world
from
countries
such
as
the
U.S
Australia,
India,
Finland,
South,
Africa
and
all
other
parts
of
Canada.
Their
team
was
made
up
of
eight
women
from
across
the
country
with
all
different
mining
backgrounds.
They'd
never
met
in
person
before
and
only
had
four
days
to
train
together
before
the
competition
began.
A
A
Having
an
inclusive
and
diverse
Workforce
is
something
we
all
must
work
towards
in
all
sectors
of
British
Columbia,
the
BC
Provincial
mind,
rescue
competition
is
being
held
in
Williams
Lake
in
June
of
this
year,
and
although
the
diamonds
won't
be
competing,
mines
from
all
over
BC,
including
Caribou
North,
will
be
participating.
It
should
be
an
exciting
showcase.
Mining,
Mining
and
mine
rescue
mining
is
an
important
part
of
the
BC
economy.
It
pervades
provides
good
pain,
family
supporting
jobs
and
I'm,
proud
that
there
are
so
many
women
women
like
Emily
working
in
the
sector.
