Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
4th Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
boundary
similkamine.
Thank
you,
speaker,
I
wish
I
were
there
with
y'all
I
rise
today
to
celebrate
the
Wellspring
of
BC
literary
culture.
On
this,
the
9th
Annual
BC
book
day
I
asked
a
BC
writer
inspired
in
the
craft
in
part,
by
invasion
of
both
Parkinson's
and
San
Luis
body
dementia
into
her
life,
to
share
her
words
so
from
here
on
the
words
of
my
friend
Leslie
Davidson.
A
Just
over
six
years
ago,
we
lost
the
brilliant
Ojibwe
writer,
Richard
wagamies,
a
man
of
heart
and
humor
and
Grace.
He
believed
quote
all
that
we
are
is
story
and
also
that
by
telling
our
stories,
we
not
only
Forge
relationships
built
on
understanding
and
respect,
but
we
grow
into
self-realization,
because
his
beautiful
powerful
words
found
a
home
with
a
publisher
of
books.
We
have
his
stories
because
there
are
Publishers
and
sellers
of
books
and
publicly
founded
libraries,
because
there
are
readers
of
books
and
writers
of
books.
A
Ours
is
a
culture
in
which
understanding
and
respect
may
not
always
exist,
but
the
possibility
of
their
existence
is
expressed
in
the
best
of
those
books.
Books
teach
us
challenge.
Our
thinking
tell
the
stories
of
Heroes,
Among
Us
and
the
villains
books
hold
Humanity
up
to
the
mirror
and
say
take
a
good
look
to
a
look
that
sometimes
leads
us
to
the
self-realization
that
we
want
to
be
better
to
do
better
books.
Let
us
walk
a
mile
in
the
shoes
of
another.
They
take
us
to
places
that
are
possibilities.
A
If
we
can
act
with
love
and
commitment
to
our
planet
into
one
another,
they
show
us
the
horrors
of
what
we
may
create.
If
we
let
selfishness
and
greed
determine
our
actions
when
life
is
Harsh
and
hard
and
sad
books
remind
us
that
there
is
laughter
and
joy
that
there
is
Delight
in
a
beautifully
conceived
phrase
or
the
perfect
word.
A
Today
we
honor
the
books
of
British
Columbia,
take
a
look
at
the
new
releases
of
any
BC
publisher
books,
and
you
will
find
diversity
as
Grand
as
pure
as
complex
as
helpful
as
riveting
and
as
wonderfully
and
Perfectly
Imperfect
as
the
communities.
The
people
in
the
Landscapes
of
this
incredible
province,
to
forge
those
relationships
grow
into
self-realization,
discover
your
own
truths.
All
that
we
are
is
story.
Thank
you.
