Description

Enjoy these quick challenges that you can do at home to entertain yourself this summer (or any time!) when you are not reading books. Brought to you by the Children’s Librarians of Buncombe County.
It is so important to keep your brain AND your body active! These challenges will help you do just that.

• Blind Drawing: You need at least two people for this - one person describes a picture that they are looking at while the other person (or people) draw what they hear. Once finished, compare the images to see the differences and similarities!
Materials:
- A picture to describe (we found simple drawings online),
- Paper to draw on and a pencil/pen/marker for each of the artists that are drawing

Oh yeah welcome back friends at home. We are here for another round of youth services challenges. Today we're going to be doing a picture description, I'm miss cassandra from the inca candler branch and I will be doing the describing now. I had a very simple picture that I took just from the internet that I'm going to be describing to my friends here: lulu raj and meredith, and they are going to listen to my description and try to draw the image that I am describing.

I want you to do this at home with us, so I'm not going to show you the picture at first, I'm going to give you a minute: go get your paper go, get a pencil or a marker or a crayon so that you can draw along with me, as I'm talking they're going to do that and at the very end, we're going to compare all three of their pictures with the original picture and we're going to see who did the closest drawing all right contestants. Are you ready ready? Yes,.

So the very first thing I'm going to tell you about this image is that along the edge of the paper is the ocean. Now I want you to draw that. However, that looks in your mind, along the edge of the paper. Is the ocean?

Okay beyond the ocean is a beach. What does that look like to you? There's a beach beyond the ocean now beyond means further away.

Okay, the next step is on the beach. There is a palm tree with grass and coconuts to one side.

So on the beach there is a palm tree with grass and coconuts to one.

Side, you guys ready for the next direction. It looks like you're still busy drawing.

Miss lulu is ready to rock and roll all right. I'm gonna move on just for uh time purposes. There is a striped beach ball in the center of the beach.

All right there is a striped umbrella on the opposite side of the beach.

Aside from the middle.

Like my beach is pretty small, the opposite side of what you've drawn, so there should be one space left. We've done the palm tree on one side, the beach ball in the center and then there's a striped umbrella on the opposite side of the beach.

All right friends, the next direction is that beyond the beach there are sand dunes beyond the beach. There are sand.

And the very last direction is is that there is a big sky with a happy sun in it, a big sky with a happy sun in it.

Alright artists, in just a moment, I want you to put your pens down.

We're going to take a look at your drawings.

But before we well no after we take a look at your drawings, we are going to look at what the original picture was. So, let's start with miss lulu miss lulu. Will you hold up your picture for us to see? Yes, I did a really big.

May this is my beach: uh this is the beach ball, this protagonist of the beach having.

This is the palm tree with the coconuts who are jealous of the uh beach ball, because these walls free blow around this is the very cool umbrella uh which is shading. This area.

This is my ocean beach. My waves are taking up most of my picture, a little beach over here and some sand dunes with some grass on them and my smiling sunglassed sun. I.
