Asheville Greenworks, in cooperation with the Buncombe County Solid Waste Department and many local sponsors featured in the video came together for Tire Amnesty Day on Saturday, October 13. Set up at the Asheville Mall, Tire Amnesty Day is a way for all the citizens in Buncombe County to come out and get rid of their tires safely, and legally, at no charge. So if you have tires that are sitting around your barn or on your property and want a safe, easy way to dispose of them, check out this video, and keep tuned in to find out when the next event will take place.

we're
collecting
tires
today
as
part
of
a
first
biannual
event
called
tire.
Amnesty
day
we
are
reaching
out
to
the
public
we're
going
to
make
a
public
place
where
you
can
come
on
a
Saturday
to
drop
off
your
tires,
a
fairly
central
location
today,
we're
with
Sears
Sears
of
sponsoring
the
parking
lot
and
advertising
for
the
cement
slate.

Things
we've
brought
a
trailer
out
from
the
landfill
and
we're
allowing
people
to
bring
their
tires
in
the
people
are
helped
cleaned
up
tires,
how
the
creeks
and
now
the
roadsides
in
the
communities
here
Ashland
welcome
County
surrounding
areas.
So
just
a
good
correlation
of
work
efforts,
volunteer
efforts
between
all
the
county
and
the
city
and
in
the
private
sector
to
help
clean
up
tires
in
Buncombe
County.
This
is
a
chance
for
folks
to
get
those
old
tires
in
their
backyards
anywhere.

can
find
any
tires,
just
get
them
out
of
those
gullies
wherever
bring
them
here
or
to
the
lamp
you
bring

year.
The
landfill
for
free
just
show
proof
of
residency
at
Buncombe
County,
and
you
can
dispose
of
them
down
there.
We
do
take
them.
There
is
a
charge,
two
dollars
a
piece
for
a
tire
with
a
rim
on
it,
because
we
they
have
to
dismount
the
tire
from
the
rim
when
it
gets
to
the
tire
recycler.

our

but

that
these
recycler
dollars
out
here
from
ten
o'clock
till
file,

think,
and
so
my
barn
was
getting
a
little
crowded
and

the
time
cumulated
over
the
years,
and
so
I
decided
to
load
them
up,
bring
them
out
here
and
where
I
could
get
into
my
barn
or
puts
all
been
seen.

are

folks

are
involved
in
some
way
with
the
water
or
around
our
water
and
some
some
way
fashion
form,
and
this
is
one
way
for
them
to
contribute
to
help
us
take
care
of
this

Think
it's
a
really
neat
thing
to
have
a
tire
amnesty
day,
because
a
lot
of
people
have
tires
sitting
in
their
house
or
in
a
garage,
don't
know
what
to
do
with
them.
They
tend
to
sit
around
and
gather
dirt
and
become
dirt
themselves,
and
then
people
will
handle
them
improperly
they'll,
take
them
out,
throw
them
down
a
bank
or
into
the
river
just
to
be
rid
of
them
rather
than
handle
them
properly.

the
green
works
doing
this
today
it
gives
people
an
opportunity
to
come
out
and
legally
dispose
of
tires
and
just
doing
the
right
thing.
I
think
the
greater
part
of
this
it
makes
people
aware
that
there
is
a
problem
with
keeping
old
tires
around
or
not
disposing
of
them
properly.
So
there
Asheville,
Green
Works,
is
doing
great
service
for
the
community
and
making
people
aware
of
the
proper
way
of
handling
scrap
tires.

do
the
wrong
thing
with
the
tires
this
year
since
january,
two
thousand
twelve
we've
collected
1277
tires
out
of
the
french
broad,
the
hominy
Creek
swannanoa
River,
all
this
different
rivers,
our
volunteers,
are
working
hard
and
they're.
Finding
more
tires.
Last
year
we
collected
1123
for
the
entire
year,
so
we
are
seeing
a
rise
in
illegal
dumping
and
we
feel
that
that
stems
from
not
enough
for
cycling
locations.
There
is
currently
one
it's
at
the
county,
landfill
they're,
very
receptive
at
the
epilim
field.

Take
your
tires
but
tires
accumulate,
you
buy
an
old
farm
and
it's
got
a
dozen
tires
behind
it
somewhere
and
you
don't
quite
know
what
to
do
with
it.
So
today
we're
talking
about
how
you
can
get
them
recycled,
what's
going
to
happen
with
them.
Next,
the
trailer
is
filling
up
fast
and
we're
hoping
to
build
on
this
energy
for
the
next
event
in
spring
I've.

Been
an
entire
industry
for
41
years
and
scrap
tires
have
always
been
a
problem.
Fortunately,
in
the
early
mid
90s
North
Carolina
enacted
a
scrap
tire
disposal
ordinance
that
really
makes
it
easier
to
deal
with
scrap
tires
at
first
of
all,
prohibits
land
filling
hole
tires,
and
it
also
imposed
a
sales
tax
or
a
recycling
tax.
At
that
time
of
two
percent,
which
goes
to
the
proper
handling
the
tires
and
it's
redistributed
to
the
counties,
it
pays
for
ridding
people
or
ridding
the
community.
