A
There's
a
reason:
spring
is
gardening,
month
in
north
carolina,
what
a
great
time
to
get
out
enjoy
the
springtime
weather
and
catch
up
on
those
garden
chores.
This
might
be
a
good
time
to
think
about
a
little
bit
of
spring
cleanup
in
the
garden,
for
example,
in
the
perennial
bed.
If
you've
got
some
of
those
plants
that
you've
not
finished
cutting
back,
but
the
old
vegetation
on
this
is
the
time
before
you
get
too
much
new
growth
on
those
perennials
to
finish
cleaning
up.
A
If
your
garden
is
like
mine,
you
probably
also
still
have
leaves
that
haven't
been
cleaned
up,
so
this
is
the
time
to
get
in
there
and
rake
those
ground
cover
beds,
also
as
well
as
cleaning
up
in
the
perennial
bed
while
you're
at
it.
If
you
have
any
perennials
that
need
to
be
divided,
this
is
a
good
time
before
they
get
too
much
growth
put
out
on
them
to
go
ahead
and
divide
and
replant
those
as
well
don't
forget
about
those
daffodil
beds
once
those
flowers
fade.
A
A
A
If
you
have
some
shrubs
that
need
some
pruning,
it's
fine
to
continue
pruning
those
evergreen
shrubs,
and
you
can
also
do
hard
cut
backs
now
on
the
butterfly
bush
and
rows
of
sharon.
If
you
need
to,
of
course,
the
spring
blooming
plants
you're
not
going
to
do
those
until
after
they
have
finished
blooming.
A
If
you
have
not
fertilized
the
perennial
bed
or
the
shrubbery
bed,
if
you
need
to,
you
can
still
go
ahead
and
do
that
as
well
for
the
lawn
there
really
is
not
much
to
be
doing
in
the
month
of
april
other
than
mowing.
You
want
to
keep
that
mower
height
set
at
about
three
inches
for
the
fescue
lawns,
and
the
challenge
is
going
to
be
mowing
frequently
enough
to
where
you
do
not
remove
more
than
a
third
of
the
grass
blade
at
a
time.
A
A
In
the
vegetable
garden,
we're
just
about
in
between
the
planting
seasons,
for
our
cool
season,
vegetables
and
our
summer
crops
up
until
about
the
middle
of
april,
you
can
still
set
out
your
transplants
for
your
cool
weather,
cabbage
broccoli,
your
leafy
greens
and
so
forth.
You
can
still
set
out
your
seedlings
for
your
lettuce
plants.
A
A
If
you
do
have
some
of
those
cabbage
family
plants
in
the
garden
like
the
cabbage
and
broccoli,
although
we
don't
have
as
much
insect
problems
in
the
spring
as
we
do
with
the
fall
crops,
it's
still
a
good
idea
to
keep
an
eye
on
those
plants
and
look
for
signs
of
perhaps
aphids
or
your
caterpillars,
and
be
ready
with
some
of
the
organic
bacteria
spray
for
the
caterpillars
or
the
insecticidal
soap.
For
the
aphids.
A
You
know
a
lot
of
people
are
planting
small
fruit
crops.
These
days,
like
the
strawberries,
blueberries,
blackberries
raspberries,
do
keep
in
mind.
I
know
it's
a
really
hard
thing
to
do,
but
when
you
set
out
strawberry
plants
and
blueberry
plants,
you
do
need
to
pull
those
flower
blossoms
off
of
the
plants
the
first
year
for
strawberries
and
preferably
the
first
two
years
for
the
blueberries,
because
you
really
do
not
want
those
plants
putting
the
energy
into
growing
fruit.
