Description
Buncombe County COVID-19 Community Update for June 8, 2020
A
Good
afternoon
and
welcome
to
the
June
8th
community
update,
my
name
is
Stacie
wood
and
I
serve
as
a
public
information
officer
here
in
the
Emergency
Operations
Center.
We
are
bringing
these
updates
to
our
community
in
both
English
and
Spanish.
The
spanish-language
version
can
be
found
on
the
Buncombe
County
Health
and
Human
Services
Facebook
page,
and
that
can
be
found
on
Facebook
at
BC
HHS.
A
B
There
continue
to
be
four
nursing
homes
in
the
county
with
outbreaks
kovat,
19,
and
so
far
these
outbreaks
involve
a
total
of
87
residents
and
56
staff
with
lab
confirmed,
kovat
19,
as
some
of
those
staff
are
not
Buncombe
County
residents,
they
do
not
show
up.
In
our
total
case,
count
of
three
hundred
ninety
three
cases
of
kovat
19,
like
other
reportable
diseases
and
conditions,
are
counted
in
the
county
of
residence.
B
Last
Friday,
the
state
reported
the
first
kovat
19
associated
death
of
a
child
in
North
Carolina,
while
most
cases
of
kovat,
19
and
children
are
mild
in
older
people,
and
people
with
underlying
med
conditions
such
as
diabetes,
asthma
and
heart
disease
are
more
at
risk
for
becoming
severely
ill
from
kovat
19.
This
infection
can
cause
serious
illness
and
anyone
we
all
need
to
take
it
seriously,
not
just
for
our
own
health,
but
for
the
health
of
everyone
around
us.
B
Kovat
19
symptoms,
if
you
recall,
may
include
fever,
chills,
cough
shortness
of
breath
or
difficulty,
breathing
fatigue,
muscle
or
body
aches,
headache,
sore
throat,
loss
of
taste
or
smell
congestion
or
runny
nose,
nausea,
vomiting
and
diarrhea
in
our
community
and
throughout
much
of
the
testing
done
so
far.
Many
people
who
test
positive
for
kovat
19
commonly
have
had
very
mild
symptoms
and
some
have
had
no
symptoms
at
all.
B
B
The
ideal
time
would
be
6
days
after
that
potential
exposure.
This
is
the
guidance
we
have.
We
give
to
individuals
who
are
close
contacts
to
someone
with
lab
confirmed
Cova
19,
while
infection
with
covin
19
can
occur
as
soon
as
two
days
after
exposure
on
average.
It
takes
5
to
6
days,
although
it
can
take
up
to
14
days.
B
However,
regardless
of
when
you
think
you
may
have
been
exposed.
If
you
develop
symptoms,
you
should
seek
testing
immediately.
Please
contact
a
healthcare
provider
if
you
have
symptoms
of
Kovan
19
or
meet
the
criteria
for
testing.
If
your
healthcare
provider
does
not
offer
testing
contact,
one
of
the
local
urgent
cares
or
clinics
offering
testing,
which
includes
rage,
range,
urgent
care
mercy,
urgent
care

but
we
do

that
those

including

card
with
them
so
that
their
insurance
can
be
billed
for
the
cost
of
the
tests.
Language
services
will
be
available
at
the
community
testing
sites.
