Every year the Swannanoa Library puts on a fantastic outdoor music concert called Groovin' on Grovemont. It's a great way to make our communities smaller, have a great cookout, listen to music, and just have a good time this summer! It's taking place on Tuesday, July 21 at 101 W. Charleston St. in Swannanoa.

Come to Lake Julian Park at sunset on Saturday, July 4 for a spectacular fireworks display. This show happens every year, so show up early to get a good seat, or use some of the parts great amenities. They have picnic shelters, paddle boats, volleyball, playgrounds, fishing access, and much more.

Join our host, Angie Hall, with Buncombe County Library, Recreation and Culture Department as she provides information about the events and programs taking place this summer in Buncombe County. Cyndy Kirkland with Black Mountain Recreation and Parks also provides information about the events and programs in Black Mountain. Buncombe County Parks, Greenways & Recreation Services has now merged with the Library System. Their new department name is Buncombe County Library, Recreation and Culture Department. This change is due to the North Carolina General Assembly authorizing Buncombe County to create the State's first Culture and Recreation Authority. Walk with a Doc takes place on October 5th. Walk with a doctor and have an informal conversation about your health questions. Dodgeball league sign-ups begin October 1 and a kickball brawl tournament takes place October 19th at the Sports Park. The Haunted Lagoon at the Zeugner Center is happening Ocgober 26 from 1 - 4. Watch for these programs and more from Buncombe County. Programs happening in Black Mountain include a bike ride to the Virginia Creeper Trail on October 17th and the Swamp Rabbit Trail November 7. Holiday programs include Thanksgiving lunch at the Senior Center Thursday, November 21; Circle of Lights December 7 and a shopping trip to IKEA and the Container Store November 25. Join host Angie Hall as she provides information about the upcoming programs and events taking place this Spring in Buncombe County and Town of Black Mountain. Come Out & Play provides opportunities for the entire family to get out and enjoy sports and fun activities. Angie reminds everyone that the Sand Hill Community Garden at the Sports Park is in full swing with planting of the spring crops and is always in need of volunteers. The Kids Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday, April 27th at Lake Julian Park. Kids who are 15 and under compete for the 'biggest' fish, 'smallest' fish and 'most' fish caught. Special Olympics Spring Games will be held at TC Roberson High School on Thursday, May 2. Buncombe County's outdoor pools will open soon and the Super Summer Meals program will be offered again this summer. Cyndy Kirkland with Black Mountain Recreation and Parks shares events and programs taking place there. Seniors can enjoy the many programs at the Lakeview Senior Center. Join the staff for a bike ride, canoeing down the French Broad and many more activities. Come Out & Play provides opportunities for the entire family to get out and enjoy sports and fun activities. Our big event this year is Festival of Lights at Lake Julian Park. This event starts off with a 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland' December 5 & 6, 2012. Then continues with a drive thru show beginning December 7 -- 23. A dodgeball league is taking place in January so players need to sign up fast. Angie reminds everyone that the Sand Hill Community Garden at the Sports Park needs volunteers this winter and recaps the Kids Fishing Tournament that was held in late September. Kids who are 15 and under competed for the 'biggest' fish, 'smallest' fish and 'most' fish caught tournament at Lake Julian Park. Special Olympics is gearing up for the winter sports like basketball, cheerleading and skiing. Then meet Collin Bugniazet with Town of Black Mountain Recreation and Parks. He shares events and programs taking place there. Kids can participate in 'Art in the Afternoon' afterschool program, karate, and gymnastics all held at the Carver Community Center. Seniors can enjoy the many programs at the Lakeview Senior Center.
