Join host Angie Hall as she provides information about the upcoming programs and events taking place this fall in Buncombe County. Come Out & Play provides opportunities for the entire family to get out and enjoy sports and fun activities. This fall Buncombe County PG&R is offering kickball, dodgeball and volleyball. Angie gives us a recap of the successful harvest at the Sandhill Community Garden at the Sports Park and gives us details about the upcoming Haunted Pool Lagoon at the Zeugner Center. Kids who are 15 and under can come compete for the 'biggest' fish, 'smallest' fish and 'most' fish caught tournament at Lake Julian Park. Then Renee Mastrangelo with Town of Black Mountain Recreation and Parks shares events and programs taking place there. Kids can enjoy the Kids Carnival, seniors can enjoy the many programs at the Lakeview Senior Center and all park facilities in the Town of Black Mountain are now 'smoke-free.' Buncombe County Parks, Greenways and Recreation and Black Mountain Recreation and Parks are located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina.

Services
and
black
mountain
recreation
parks
had
some
wonderful
events
and
programs
coming
up.
This
fall
for
the
entire
family,
but
before
we
get
started
talking
about
all
the
fun
events,
we
want
to
congratulate
our
gardeners
at
the
sand
hill
community
garden
for
a
successful
first
season.
A
75
pounds
of
the
produce
harvested
has
been
donated
to
manna
Food
Bank,
which
were
distributed
immediately
to
the
people
in
Buncombe
County,
who
might
not
have
access
to
fresh
produce.
Community
gardeners
also
enjoyed
a
bountiful
spring
and
summer
of
fresh
vegetables
to
enjoy
with
their
families
and
friends.
The
garden
is
located
at
the
Buncombe
County
Sports
Park
in
west
asheville.
All
the
planning,
hoeing
and
pigging
is
provided
by
neighbors
of
the
sand
hill
community
and
surrounding
neighborhoods.
The
sand
hill
community
garden
is
looking
for
more
volunteers.
Children
are
welcome
so
put
on
your
work.

most
fun
costume,
halloween
event

buncombe
county.
The
fun
begins
at
1pm
with
face
painting
on
all
kinds
of
christ.

the
kids,

forget

trick-or-treat
bag

carry
home
some
halloween
goodies
at
one-thirty,
the
costume
contest
begins.
Contestants
are
divided
into
three
age
categories.

will
be
awarded
to
the
best
costume
and
the
24
year
old
category,
the

28
year
old
category
and
to
the
nine
years
and
above
category
admission
to
this
an
event
is
only
one
kind
of
food
that
will
be
donated
to
manna.

for

at
the
pool
which
opens
at
two
p.m.

know

fall
is
big
time
for
football,
but
it's
also
big
time
in
buncombe
county
for
some
other
sports,
we've
got
kickball
volleyball
in
dodgeball
we
will
be
holding
our
first
annual
Fall
Brawl
kickball
classic
tournament
on
Saturday
november,
seventeenth
and
Sunday
November
eighteenth.
This
two-day
event
will
be
held
at
the
Buncombe
County
Sports
Park
from
ten
a.m.
until
6pm.
It's
a
double
elimination
tournament
with
the
winning
team
being
presented.

plaque
registration
begins
on
october.

cost
is

for
a
nine
player
team
and
twenty
five
dollars
per
individual
for
additional
players.
Players
will
receive
a
free,
teen
t-shirt.
All
proceeds
from

Fall
Brawl

Volleyball
league
registration
begins
Monday,
September
third
and
ends
on
Friday
October
19th.
The
cost
is
only
forty
dollars,
a
team
with
the
team
consisting
of
four
co-ed
players.
The
season
is
from
October
thirtieth
through
November
15
games
are
played
on
tuesday
and
thursday
evenings
from
six
until
8pm
at
the
buncombe
county
sports
part.
The
league
is
limited
to
the
first
18.

will

playoffs
and

will

awarded
to
the
winning

championship

winning

will

their
accomplishment.

an

can

canoe

on

water.

Welcome
back
well,
the
kids
are
back
in
school,
and
that
means
they
have
access
to
healthy
lunches
and
during
the
summer,
kids,
all
over
the
county
had
access
to
healthy
lunches.
Also,
thanks
to
the
super
summer
meals
program
provided
by
the
Buncombe
County
Schools
child
nutrition
program,
children,
ages,
18
and
under
buckland
county
had
access
to
free
lunches
and
in
some
locations
breakfast
hundreds
of
nutritious
meals
were
prepared
in
school
kitchens
and
transported
across
the
county
to
schools,
churches
in
neighborhoods
and
at
four
of
our
outdoor
swimming
pools.

at
erwin,
hominy
valley,
north
buncombe
and
owen
swimming
pools,
waited
anxiously
each
day
for
the
tasty
meals
to
arrive
at
the
pools
alone.
Approximately
4800
mills
were
served
during
this
eight-week
period
to
children,
who
might
not
have
had
access
to
a
healthy
meal.
During
the
day.

summer

at
the
Valley
Child
Development
Center,
located
off
a
b-tree
road
near
the
Buncombe
Community
High
School.
This
is
the
only
child
care
center
operated
by
Buncombe
County
government.
Recently,
the
childcare
center
received
a
facelift
to
the
infant
and
toddler
outdoor
play
area.

An
area
that
was
underused
was
transformed
by
adding
fencing
and
gates
to
become
a
water
play
area
for
the
one
and
two
year
olds.
Water
tables
were
added
some
only
15
inches
high,
allowing
even
the
youngest
children
who
are
just
pulling
up
standing
and
learning
to
walk
to
dip
tiny
fingers
in
the
water
and
splash.

The
area
where
the
water
tables
are
located
can
be
gated
off
for
infants
to
use
safely
or
the
gate
to
the
infant
area
can
confine
them
to
their
designated
play
space
and
the
toddlers
can
come
in
and
use
the
water
tables.
Fencing
also
made
it
possible
to
have
an
area
for
non-mobile
babies
to
enjoy
tummy
time
outside
with
the
addition
of
an
outdoor
carpet.
This
area
will
be
perfect.

toddler
area
has
also
received
a
fresh
coat
of
stain
and
sealer,
making
the
whole
playground
attractive
and
inviting
the
skilled
employees
of
the
Buncombe
County
General
Services
Department
made
all
these
improvements
possible
for
more

after
school
programs
are
gearing
up

Carver
community
center
at
the

center.

can
find
all
sorts

programs

kids,
karate
gymnastics,
exercise,
classes
and

in
that
is
art
and
activities
in
the
afternoon.
Art
in
the
afternoon
is
an
after-school
program
designed
for
kids
to
use
art
as
an
after-school
activity.
It
is
located
at
the
carbon
Community
Center.
A
bus
brings
the
kids
from
the
elementary
and
the
primary
school.

until
6pm,
everyday
activities
include
drawing
painting,
sculpting,
beating
sewing
and

5k

and

hiking

of

excellence

state

ordinance
was
passed
in
Black
Mountain
a
few
months
ago,
which
requires
that
all
of
our
parks,
even
including
the
golf
course
are
tobacco
free.
So
what
that
means
is
when
you
and
your
children
or
your
family
come
out
to
visit
any
of
our
facilities.

ask
that
you
leave
your
your
dip
or
your
cigarettes
at
home.
This
just
ensures
that
we
create
a
healthy
environment
for
all
of
our
community
and
we
are
good
examples
for
our
kids,
while
they're
here,
having
fun
playing
and
enjoying
the
outdoors.

we'd
like
to
remind
everybody
in
the
community.

you
come
to
lake
tomahawk
park,
that
you
refrain
from
feeding
the
waterfowl,
all
birds
ducks
geese
are
part
of
nature
and
they
find
their
own
food.

they
rely
on
humans

that
they
begin
to
overpopulate
and
it
creates
a
very
unhealthy
environment
for
the
waterfowl.

to

at

camera,
take

and
create

but
please
do
not
feed
the
water
fowl
