From YouTube: State of the City 2022
Description
The State of the City took place on October 20, 2022 at the Marriott Burbank Airport.
A
A
I
would
like
to
kick
it
off
by
by
introducing
some
truly
inspiring
people.
First,
we
have
Pastor
Brandon
Johnson
from
the
First
Christian
Church
of
Burbank,
and
he
will
be
delivering
the
invocation
presenting
the
colors
is
the
U.S
army,
color
guards
and
to
sing
the
national
anthem.
Are
the
neochromatics
a
mixed
contemporary
acapella
group,
made
up
of
students
from
the
John
Burroughs
High
School
Elite
shows
choir
Powerhouse.
A
Council,
member
Nick
Schultz
cannot
be
with
us
tonight.
He
has
some
exciting
things
going
on
personally
and
we
wish
him
we
wish
him
well.
We
also
have
our
city
clerks
is
at
Mullins
City
Treasurer,
Crystal
bomber
you're,
Justin,
Hess
assistant
city
manager,
Judy
Wilke,
City
attorney,
Joe
McDougall,
Burbank,
Unified,
School,
District's
superintendent,
Matt,
Hill,
representative
from
the
office
of
congressman
Adam
Schiff
represented
his
from
supervisor
Catherine
barger's
office,
Glendale
city
council,
member
Paula
Devine.
A
My
amazing
Burbank
Chamber
of
Commerce
board
members
and
tonight
or
excuse
me
today
are
generous
sponsors
to
all
of
our
guests.
Thank
you
for
joining
us.
When
I
was
standing
on
this
stage.
Last
year
the
chamber
was
in
a
state
of
change.
We
were
slowly
ramping
up
for
our
planning
and
energies
to
refocus
on
improving
the
business
community
of
Burbank.
A
year
later,
I
can
confidently
look
back
on
some
of
the
amazing
things
the
chamber
has
championed
with
great
success.
A
Our
Chow
Down
Burbank
campaign
has
helped
create
renewed
awareness
and
patronage
for
the
city's
many
restaurants,
who
have
been
hard
hit
over
the
past
few
years.
This
program
has
garnered
a
national
award
and
has
helped
pump.
The
interest
into
the
Fantastic
restaurants
in
our
city
are
what's
are
what's
brewing
in
Burbank.
A
Networking
program
has
also
been
a
delight.
We
shine
a
light
on
local
business
hosts
and
provide
a
forum
of
information
and
ideas
with
various
City
business
and
non-profit
groups,
providing
engaging
interaction
for
our
members
and
the
community
last
spring.
The
chamber's
first
excellence
awards
was
a
resounding
success,
as
we
rot
an
entire
Community
together
to
celebrate
friendships,
enjoy
local
food
and
drink
and,
more
importantly,
to
highlight
and
honor
a
number
of
exemplary
organizations
within
this
fine
City.
We
look
forward
to
continuing
this
tradition
moving
forward.
A
This
year's
theme
is
when
a
city
comes
together,
and
that's
just
what
we've
done
here
today.
We
have
representation
from
the
school
district,
non-profit
organizations
and
service
clubs,
local
government,
the
faith-based
community,
our
residents
and
our
large
medium
and
small
businesses.
All
of
these
groups
create
the
fabric
of
this
incredible
City.
A
We
don't
always
see
these
small
businesses,
but
they're
here
growing
every
year
in
Burbank
living
rooms,
garages
and
local
coffee
houses,
starting
a
new
plan
to
follow
their
dreams.
The
large
business
is
the
Cornerstone,
but
the
small
business
is
the
backbone
of
our
community.
The
chamber
recognizes
the
challenges
and
obstacles.
They
must
overcome
day
in
and
day
out
to
succeed.
Our
goal
is
to
help
these
dream.
Dreams
come
to
life
not
only
to
succeed
but
to
sustain
and
Thrive
the
chambers
role.
As
an
advocate
for
small
business
means
it's
our
job.
To
listen.
A
The
chamber
is
ideally
positioned
to
help
with
these
struggles
and
has
been
working
on
a
concierge
Business
program
for
2023,
aimed
at
untangling
untangling.
This.
This
maze
we're
looking
we're
looking
forward
to
continuing
this
work
with
the
city
whose
priorities
align
the
response
to
this.
This
proposed
program
has
been
fantastic
and
we're
thrilled
to
see
both
the
city,
government
and
Business
Leaders
support
the
promise
of
this
undertaking.
A
We
believe
that
providing
businesses
a
One-Stop
concierge
for
all
their
city
government
needs
will
provide
a
huge
boost
to
new
and
growing
businesses
and
help
enhance
burbank's
image
as
one
of
the
most
business
friendly
cities
in
southern
California,
so
now
sit
back
and
enjoy
and
without
further
Ado.
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
Pastor
Brandon
Johnson.
A
B
I
invite
you
to
I
invite
you
to
join
me
in
a
time
of
prayer,
reflection
or
meditation,
whichever
is
most
comfortable
for
you,
God
of
mystery
and
infinite
names,
Today
We
Gather,
to
reflect
on
the
state
of
Burbank.
Give
thanks
for
the
past
year,
while
critically,
looking
at
the
future
in
that
Spirit,
oh
God,
we
invoke
your
sense
of
all-inclusive
community.
B
We
invoke
your
invitation
to
listen
to
the
voices
of
those
too
often
marginalized.
We
invoke
your
sense
of
Beauty
in
the
shadow
of
the
verdugos
as
we
strive
to
be
a
more
sustainable
City.
We
invoke
your
sense
of
shelter
as
we
work
to
provide
housing
for
all
people.
We
invoke
your
spirit
of
love
as
we
strive
to
create
spaces
of
healing
hope
and
renewal
and
just
Civic
engagement.
We
invoke
your
sense
of
wisdom
as
we
affirm
education
in
its
many
forms.
B
C
E
F
F
Bad
news
is
I'm
going
to
tell
a
story.
I
got
an
email
last
night
from
Dale
Carnegie
and
talked
about
the
power
of
Storytelling
and
I
thought.
You
know
what
this
is
a
great
opportunity
for
me
to
tell
one
of
my
personal
stories
that
happened
to
me
and
my
wife.
37
years
ago
we
were
eloping
to
Las
Vegas
to
get
married
and
on
our
way
sees
the
sign
for
Calico
Ghost
Town
says:
let's
go
I
said
really,
let's
go
I
might
say,
no
I
haven't
even
been
married.
F
Yet
so
we
turn
off
on
the
road
and
we're
going
down
the
road-
and
you
know,
there's
brush
about
this
tall
and
out
of
nowhere.
This
guy
jumps
up
out
of
the
the
brush
with
flat
gear
on
camouflage
and
a
rifle,
and
this
dog
bolts
across
the
road
and
I
hit
the
dog
and
I'm,
like
oh,
my
God,
but
this
guy's
got
a
gun
and
I'm
like
I'm
going
so
I
go
about
a
minute
down
the
road,
Tammy
and
I
pull
over
I'm
shaking
and
we
got
to
go
back
honey.
We
gotta
go
back.
F
Back
so
we
turned
the
car
around
and
we're
going
and
now
the
dog
is
on
the
other
side
of
the
road.
Like
dogs
got
to
be
okay,
not
where
we
was,
and
the
guy's
gone
again
did
I.
Imagine
this.
We
get
about
50
feet
from
the
dog
and
the
guy
jumps
up
out
of
the
bushes
again
with
his
gear
and
his
this
and
he's
waving.
His
arms
and
I
hit
the
gas
and
we
were
gone.
That
was
good
I'm,
not
waiting
to
see
what
he
wanted.
F
There,
and
so
we
got
in
a
contract
dispute
with
the
government
of
over
about
eighty
thousand
dollars,
which
is
almost
200
Grand.
Today,
there's
a
lot
of
money
and
we're
having
dinner
one
night
with
my
Dad's
friend,
who
was
a
retired
Air
Force
Colonel,
he
was
a
lawyer
for
the
government
retired
from
the
Air
Force
went
to
work
for
Lockheed
and
he
wrote
the
largest
firm,
fixed
price
contract
in
the
history
Lockheed
for
the
c5a
and
so
we're
having
dinner.
F
F
This
is
like
five
years
earlier,
so
we
get
to
the
Marine
Corps
Base,
so
we
get
in
the
meeting
and
the
the
Contracting
officer
she's
like
really
mean
and
like
we
started
off
really
rough
and
I'm
thinking
we're
never
going
to
get
anywhere.
This
is
not
going
anywhere,
but
around
lunch
time
we
started
making
progress.
She
was
more
friendly,
we
were
more
friendly
and
we
were
getting
really
close
to
our
number.
F
We
break
for
lunch
come
back
from
lunch
and
we
started
discussing
how
nobody
lives
out
here
in
the
whole,
bit
and
I
decided
to
tell
my
story
so
as
I'm
telling
my
story,
I
look
at
her
and
I
said,
and
this
dog
runs
across
the
road
and
I
hit.
The
dog
she
says
was
the
dog
black
and,
of
course,
my
heart's.
My
stomach
and
I
said
yes
and
she
says
you
killed
Sam.
F
I
didn't
know
how
to
answer
at
that
point,
so
I,
paused
and
I
waited,
and
she
goes
thank
God.
You
didn't
stop.
My
ex-husband
was
crazy.
He
was
on
maneuvers
practicing
his
survivalist
stuff.
Thank
God.
You
didn't
stop.
He
divorced
me
moved
to
one
of
my
Wyoming
with
a
rainbow
chick
and
I
haven't
seen
him
ever
since
I'm,
like
oh
right,
I'm,
like
Oh,
my
thank
God.
F
E
H
Thank
you
everybody
for
being
here
today,
exciting
seeing
everybody
I
mean
a
lot
of
people
which
is
great
I'm
gonna,
get
into
my
little
Spiel
here
that
was
already
prepared,
so.
H
Well,
we'll
move
on
I
want
you
all
to
look
around
the
room.
There
are
people
in
here
from
all
walks
of
life,
different
backgrounds,
different
experiences
and
different
professions,
but
we
all
share
a
common
purpose,
a
shared
goal
to
protect,
provide
and
always
improve
our
lives
and
the
lives
of
those
around
us.
This
is
what
makes
Burbank
a
great
community.
H
It's
been
said
that,
coming
together
as
a
beginning,
keeping
together
is
progress
working
together,
a
success.
You
see,
burbankers
care
deeply
about
their
families,
neighbors
and
the
community,
and
we've
been
doing
that
for
over
100
years
back
in
2011,
when
I
was
a
centennial
mayor,
all
of
Burbank
came
together
to
put
on
one
of
the
best
and
biggest
parties
to
celebrate
our
Town's
100th
birthday
and
11
years
later,
we
still
go
above
and
beyond,
in
whatever
we
do.
H
Our
vibrant
downtown
is
a
perfect
example
of
burbankers
coming
together
to
build
something
special
through
Partnerships,
such
as
a
downtown
Burbank
property-based
business
improvement,
district
or
p-bid
Property
Owners
businesses
and
the
City
come
together
under
a
common
goal
to
continuously
improve
our
city.
The
PBS
efforts
have
resulted
in
new
additions
like
Street
Plus.
I
The
property
business
improvement
district
here
in
downtown
Burbank,
hired
Street,
plus
back
in
March
of
2019
to
come
in
and
provide
Social,
Service
Outreach
and
also
too,
to
provide
information
to
the
locals
and
tourists
about
what's
going
on
in
downtown
Burbank
and
the
types
of
businesses
that
are
here.
Speedplus
has
a
very
strong
relationship
with
the
downtown
Burbank
businesses.
I
Street
buses
improved
the
area
first
of
all
by
transitioning
135,
homeless
people
off
the
streets.
The
other
thing,
too
is
is
that
how
they've
improved
it?
It's
always
nice
to
see
a
friendly,
smiling
face
of
an
ambassador
right.
You
know
somebody
that
you,
you
can
get
to
know
on
a
first
day
basis,
and
you
know
they're
there
for
you
to
help
you
give
you
some
guidance,
help,
give
you
some
directions.
You
know
some
recommendations,
maybe
and
and
I
think.
That
is
what
makes
it
so
special
in
the
downtown
community
and.
H
J
Our
slogan
here
at
the
Burbank
Farmers
Market,
is
for
your
health
and
for
your
neighbor's
health
care
and
for
your
health
is
obviously
the
benefit
of
all
of
the
fresh
local
produce
that
you
can
purchase
here
and
then
for
your
neighbor's
Health
Care
is
because
the
proceeds
are
being
donated
to
Providence
St
Joseph.
We
work
really
well
in
accordance
with
the
City
of
Burbank.
We
are
on
their
property
every
Saturday
morning.
The
city
is
just
it's
wonderful.
My
favorite
thing
about
the
farmers
market
is
the
community.
The
residents
we
couldn't
ask
for
better.
C
J
H
K
K
So
our
flagship
store
is
on
San
Fernando,
but
our
headquarters
is
here
on
Ontario
Street
in
Burbank,
it's
a
beautiful
facility.
Here
we
have
30
000
square
feet
of
office
and
warehouse
space.
We
not
only
design
the
line
here
we
pickpack
and
ship.
Here
we
do
all
of
our
photo
shoots
here.
We
just
rented
the
building
right
next
door
because
we're
running
out
of
space
what
I
love
about
Burbank.
K
Besides
the
fact
that
I
practice
what
I
preach
I
was
raised
here,
I
still
live
here
and
I'm
raising
my
family
here,
I
just
feel
such
a
sense
of
community.
One
way
we
like
to
give
back
is:
we
are
hugely
supportive
of
the
lgbtq
community,
so
we
give
back
during
pride
month.
We
give
10
of
our
profits
away
for
the
month
of
June
for
all
of
our
pride
merchandise.
That's
super
important
to
us
and
we
also
have
donated
to
the
Y
and
any
other.
You
know
community
activities
that
we
hear
about.
K
H
And
collaboration
can
be
seen
all
across
Burbank
and
nowhere
more
notably
than
how
local
non-profits
come
together
to
achieve
common
goals.
Take
organizations
like
home
again
in
La
the
Burbank
housing
Corporation
and
the
boys
and
girls
club
these
three
non-profits
at
both
individually
and
as
a
team
to
assist
burbankers
who
need
a
helping
hand
since.

H
We're
extremely
fortunate
to
live,
work
and
play
in
a
place
like
Burbank
with
top-notch
city
services,
fantastic
schools,
a
healthy
job
market,
dedicated
safety
personnel,
a
great
airport,
beautiful,
Parks,
I.
Think
you
get
the
idea.
Burbank
is
a
special
place,
and
that's
because
of
you,
the
community.
We
work
together
for
the
greater
good
and
when
a
city
comes
together
like
we
do,
the
possibilities
are
endless.
H
H
H
The
Cornerstone
of
a
great
Community
like
ours
are
the
city
services
we
offer,
such
as
the
once
through
the
Parks
and
Recreation
Department.
This
award-winning
department
has
unveiled
the
new
park
and
play
mobile
Recreation
vehicle,
which
will
provide
equal
opportunity
to
Recreation
programs
and
services
for
everyone
throughout
the
city.
This
colorful
van
has
already
made
many
stops
around
the
town
like
a
National,
Night,
Out
and
fire
service
day.
H
The
department
is
even
expanding.
The
scope
of
services
with
a
recent
acquisition
of
the
animal
shelter
and
the
addition
of
two
new
community
gardens
in
Burbank,
the
rep,
the
Burbank
Public
Library,
continues
to
bring
barriers
and
redefine
what
it
means
to
be
a
library
by
offering
Employment
Services
through
the
job
connect
and
by
hiring
the
city's
first
social
worker,
who
has
already
helped
4
000
individuals
we're
looking
forward
to
the
growth
of
the
library
as
the
city
moves
forward.
H
With
a
planning
and
development
of
a
proposed
new
Burbank
Civic
Center,
which
would
include
a
new
modern
Library,
open
space
and
affordable
housing
as
burbankers,
we
deeply
value
our
quality
of
life
and
Burbank
fire
department's
recent
class.
One
rating
proves
just
that
year
after
year,
the
Burbank
fire
department
ranks
near
the
top
of
all
fire
departments
in
the
country,
ensuring
that
everyone
in
Burbank
can
count
on
first-class
Fire
Protection
Services.
H
Not
only
are
we
protected
by
their
top-notch
fire
and
EMS
Services.
We're
also
taught
important
safety
tips
through
their
educational
campaigns
like
fire
prevention
week,
our
firefighters
are
valued
both
in
Burbank
and
Statewide,
as
they're
often
called
to
fight
dangerous
wildfires
such
as
a
mosquito
fire
in
the
Tahoe
National
Forest.
H
They
do
all
of
this,
while
also
taking
proactive
measures
to
protect
our
hillsides
and
neighboring
communities
from
such
disastrous
events,
the
Burbank

Responsible

The
Burbank

continues
to
partner
with
a
city
to
provide
affordable
housing
options
in
the
community.
In
December
2021,
a
city

approved
a

which
will
provide
additional,

The

as

Following
the

Our

in
partnership
with
our

worked
around
the
clock
to
implement
an
urgency
eviction
moratorium
with
several
extensions
and
a
rent
repayment
ordinance
when
we
take
action
in
Burbank.
We're
also
very
mindful
of
our
environmental
impact.
H
Burbank
Water

Power
have
been
great
stewards
of
implementing
sustainable
practices.
Ninety
percent
of
the

are
now
led,
operated
and
we're
on
Pace

soon
to

H
H
My
fellow
colleagues
and
I
have
put
a
major
emphasis
on
the
importance
of
embracing
diversity
and
inclusion
in
our
city,
the
launch
of
the
downtown
cultural
Market,
the
opening
of
the
social

Center
at
the
YMCA
and
the
establishment
of
the

Equity

committee
are
just
some
examples
of
how
we're
making
our
great
City
even
greater
I'm,
proud
to
share
that.
This
Council
has
also
recognized
Juneteenth
as
an
observed
holiday
in
Burbank
as
you've
seen
it's
been
a
great
year
and
it
looks
like
our
residence
degree.
H
Communities,
not
just
about
being
closely
located
to
someone
it's
about
building
connections,
a
common
purpose
and
the
responsibility
to
take
to
care
about
the
world.
We
live
in
and
lives.
We
impact
everyone
in
this
room
plays
an
important
part
in
what
makes
Burbank
so
great
from
the
work
you
do
within
your
homes
to
the
work
you
do
in
the
community.
H
H
H
H
H
H
And
as
they're
coming
up,
I'd
like
to
make
a
few
thank
a
few
people,
also,
the
hotel
staff
that
served
our
food
is
one.
H
That
they
put
this
presentation
together
and
I
hope
you
agree.
It
turned
out
great
before
we
take
our
picture
I'd
like
to
wish
my
granddaughter
Reagan
Jane
a
happy
birthday.
She
turned
one
yesterday
so
I'd
like
to
ask
for
all
the
audience
to
follow
him
join
me
in
wishing
a
happy
birthday
Reagan
on
three
one,
two,
three
happy
birthday:
Reagan
perfect!
Thank
you
very
much.
H
You
know
last
but
not
least,
I'd
like
to
thank
my
family
for
all
their
support
for
all
these
years,
like
I
said
especially
my
wife,
obviously,
without
their
support
things
like
this
couldn't
and
wouldn't
happen.
So
thank
you
very
much
family.
Thank
you.
A

an
amazing

If
you
haven't
had
a
chance

look
at

they're
phenomenal
if
you're
from
Burbank
really
talks
a
lot
about
the
legacy
of
our
beautiful

There
are
two
on
each

so
please
work
together
to
determine
who
will

thank
you

I
will
leave
you
with
this.
Each

together.
We
make

Thank
you

we
