Very good afternoon champs we are back again for teach in time and today for teaching time we are talking about talk, moves or quiet connections and talk. Moves and quiet connections are a way for classroom teachers to make sure that everybody has a fair learning opportunity.

A

We have a few different ones that we use in every classroom and for some classrooms it might be a little bit different in the way that you actually use them. The first one that we use is called the agree or disa or the agree or connection sign, and it looks like this you're making a connection with somebody or you're agreeing with them on their answer. We have disagree respectfully. We respectfully disagree with somebody else's answer and we have a question or a comment. We put up one finger for a question or a comment, two fingers.

If we have two questions or comments and then finally, this is kind of a new one for us, it is, if you didn't get called on and you're frustrated about that you brush off your frustrations, brush off your frustration by just brushing off your shoulders right, and so I've got some friends here with me today to help us work on the talk, moves and first, I'm going to introduce you to my friend, naima naima wave hi, all right this is naima, and so, when I was in third grade, uh we had a very specific way that we would like raise our hands and it would look like, and the teacher would get really frustrated with us, and this was like when I was in third naima.

What do you? What are you saying that when I was in third grade it was like the time of dinosaurs?

Oh uh forget, so that's not how we raise our hands. I'm gonna introduce you to my other friends that are here with me today. This is zoe and angel and naima and they're helping us with our talk moves. So I'm gonna ask a couple questions and we'll see if they can work through. The talk moves to give us an example of what these talk moves actually look like. So, ladies, are we ready? Yes, okay? So my first question: this is an easy one. This is an easy one for you to do.

I think you you're in third grade third grade math is we're using multiplication. So I'm going to ask the question: what is five times three five times? Three, oh angel is up uh she's thinking about it. Naima's thinking about it, zoe is thinking about I'm gonna call on angel. First zoe also has an answer angel. What's 5 times, 3 5 times 3 is 15.. Do we agree with her all right? Look they're using the quiet connection. Everybody has a chance to do a safe learning opportunity. That's great! Okay!

Next question: the reese's peanut butter cup is the best candy bar in the world. So what will we do if we agree with that? Okay nyema is disagreeing angel agrees with me. I agree that reese's is the best peanut butter and chocolate all right, zoey, I'm going to call on you what why do you think the reese's is not the best.

ah Interesting okay, what's your favorite candy bar.

Skittles, I guess.

Skittles, okay, so I'm gonna respectfully disagree they're bad for your teeth. All right now, you know: what's your favorite candy, my favorite candy is m m's eminem's. Okay, all right people can we can get down with m. Ms all right, good, okay, the next one is so we're talking about um we're talking about american history. Do you have any questions for me or is there any comments about uh about the state of vermont and what year the state of vermont was actually became a state? Do we have any questions about that?

No questions, it's actually 1791.. Do you know what number state vermont was?

No you could you could ask me a question, say, mr r, what what state or what was the number state? Oh naima's, going to ask? What was the question.

Oh, that's a beautiful question. Thank you. So much for asking such a lovely question. The state of vermont is actually the 14th state great question thanks. So much all right, all right, so we've talked about our talk. Moves zoe almost had a question or comment. She didn't she pulled it back and that's okay to do. Sometimes we have a question or a comment. We decide. We don't need that, and so we pull it back and that's an okay thing to do too.

uh Lastly, I want you to show a frustrational thing, and here you go: here's here's where you're gonna get your motivation from I've decided that at this point, we're just not gonna do recess any longer. We're not gonna do oh, okay, people are are disagreeing and brushing off shoulders, good all right. So that's all for today, folks that is teach in tonight time today. These are the these. I made my flags for where I'm where my family comes from. um My mom comes from my mom's jewish and uh my family on my mom and dad's side. They both come from england, so I made an england flag. Awesome thanks, molly.

That would be like something I might want to be when I grow up. What do you think a superhero would do.

Tell me again: save people and you want to save people, and would your superhero be able to fly? Would you be invisible, so people could see you and you'd fly? What would your superhero name be.

Superfly superfly love, it superfly, put it there buddy, I love it. I might need you as a superhero. You'll. Save me right, okay, so the next time I forget, my coffee, I'll call my superhero and say superfly. I need my coffee right perfect here. What grade are you in kindergarten? Can you say, kindergarten kenny garden, kindergarten, one more time, kindergarten, no, there's no d in that word, candy garden, all right, you're, getting closer all right. So what do you want to do when you grow.

You want to be like your mom, a teacher and a great mom.

I don't have. I have nothing with that. That is like. I can't think of anything better to be. That is the most amazing thing. I've heard all day. Can you do me a favor when you get home tonight? Could you tell your mom that your mom would love to hear that and give her a great big hug, because she might look like this too?

In kindergarten- and I hear that even though you're in kindergarten, you know what you want to do when you grow up, you do okay. What do you want to do when you grow.
