Today, the Huntington Middle School Band celebrated the gift of new instruments from the Save the Music Foundation. The instruments, stands, and other essential items the school has ordered are valued between $20,000 and $25,000. As school facilities in West Virginia remain closed as part of Governor Justice’s “stay home” order, many parents have questions or concerns about how their children will access online learning, complete assignments or engage with their teachers.
To help those parents with answers, today Cabell County Schools is launching its Connected Classroom project. The goal of this website-based project is to provide families with a central source of information regarding instruction, testing, meal delivery, and social and emotional supports. In today’s update, Superintendent Ryan Saxe sits down for a conversation about the COVID-19 coronavirus and its impact on our schools with Cabell-Huntington Health Department Physician Director, Michael E. Kilkenny, MD, MS.
Today, Cabell County Schools is also announcing the district is postponing the all-county band and all-county choir concerts and practices until a time yet to be determined.
There will be a three-hour early release for all students Monday, March 16, 2020. This is to allow teachers to plan for instruction if school is cancelled in the future due to the COVID-19 situation. Teachers will be given guidance as to what they need to do to complete their preparation.
