From YouTube: Student Technology Empowerment Plan Update
Description
Since launching our district-wide Student Technology Empowerment Plan (STEP), many great things have been happening in our schools. New devices have been secured, networks have been upgraded, ongoing staff development has been launched and students have taken a real leadership role in their learning. Assistant Superintendent Kelly Watts visited with students and staff to see the impact STEP is making in their schools. #MyCabellSchools #BeAwesomeCabell
A
I'm
Kelly
watts
and
I'm
the
assistant
superintendent
for
capital,
County
Schools
today
we're
at
Huntington
high
school
and
we're
going
to
meet
the
student
tech
team
come
on.
Let's
meet
them,
hey
guys.
How
are
you
all
today,
I've
been
following
you
on
Twitter
and
I'm
very
excited
to
learn
more
about
how
you
got
started
and
kind
of
what
your
goals
and
your
expectations
are
for
your
teeth.
I'm
very
excited
to
learn
more
about.
You
know
how
you
got
started.
Who
would
like
to
tell
me
that
story?
We.
B
C
D
A
E
We
we
are
across
during
seventh
mod
and
we
just
kind
of
get
together
and
we
go
through
different
programs.
They're
working
on
their
certification,
like
just
like
the
teachers,
did
to
get
their
apple
certification,
I'm
sort
of
going
through
that
program
and
then
anytime,
a
teacher
has
anything
they
go
and
help
them
with
that.
So
we
just
spend
time
making
videos
so.
F
E
A
Class
is
just
in
this
group
is
exactly
what
we're
wanting
to
see,
because
the
focus
is
not
on
the
technology.
The
focus
is
actually
on
the
learning
and
how
you
support
the
learning
and
the
resources
and
I
look
forward
to
learning
more
and
seeing
what
they
do.
Second
semester
me
too
we're
in
our
second
nine
weeks
right
now
and
all
of
our
schools
now
have
their
technology.
So
what
are
you
doing?
Is
academic
specialists
to
really
support
the
learning
by
helping
our
teachers
peers.
G
And
I
were
lucky
enough
to
attend
the
Apple
Learning
Academy
over
the
summer,
and
in
this
fall
we
learned
ways
to
help
integrate
the
technology
and
to
assist
our
teachers.
We've
been
going
around
to
the
different
classes
and
helped
to
lead
some
of
those
different
conversations
and
provide
professional
development
as
well.
Are
you
seeing.
F
I
think
at
first
it's
a
little
bit
about
the
technology,
because
we're
learning
how
to
use
something
new,
and
so
we
focus
on
making
sure
that
we
feel
comfortable
with
the
device
in
order
to
put
it
in
front
of
kids
to
get
them
to
use
it.
But
now
that
everyone's
pretty
comfortable
with
what
they
have
I
think
we're.
Seeing
that
really
great
learning
experience
occur
in
classrooms
and.
E
A
H
When
a
teacher
asks
for
my
help,
I
always
set
up
a
time
to
go
in
and
observe.
First
I
want
to
see
that
their
teaching
style
I
want
to
see
the
group
of
students
they
have
because
blending
technology
into
a
classroom
isn't
a
one-size-fits-all
thing.
So
I'll
go
in
and
watch
two
class
periods,
sometimes
more
if
it's
a
if
it's
a
tough
group
or
I've
got
to
figure
out
how
to
best
implement
the
technology.
After
that
observation,
the
teacher
and
I
will
sit
down
again
and
we'll
make
a
plan
together.
A
What
a
great
day
on
the
hill
I
mean
we
got
to
talk
to
the
students
of
Huntington
core.
They
got
to
share
with
us
about
how
they
helped
the
teachers
and
the
students
we
got
to
talk
to
my
academic
specialists
and
how
they're
supporting
the
instruction
and
the
learning
with
the
technology
what's
exciting
is
that
today
we
actually
got
to
see
our
students
take
ownership
of
their
own
learning
through
the
use
of
technology
and
we're
seeing
this
across
the
district,
and
this
is
just
your
one.
We
can't
wait
to
show
you
what
the
future
holds.
