A
Hi
everyone,
I'm
steve
williams,
I'm
the
mayor
of
huntington
and
thrilled
to
have
been
asked
to
be
able
to
share
one
of
my
favorite
children's
books
for
the
holiday
season
and
I'm
I
have
chosen
to
to
read
from
you
in
this
story
time
the
littlest
angel,
which
is
written
by
charles
taswell.
A
This
is
very
personal
to
me
when
I
was
six
or
seven
years
old,
first
or
second
grade
my
school
was
having
a
school
christmas
play
and
I
was
we
had
the
littlest
angel
and
I
was
one
of
the
angels
in
in
in
the
play
and
there's
I
have
followed
this
book
ever
since
then
and
as
soon
as
they
asked
me
to.
If
I,
if
I
would
pick
out
my
favorite
holiday
children's
book
immediately,
I
thought
of
the
littlest
angel
and
I'm
keeping.
A
This
is
my
library
at
home
and
I
keep
some.
I
I
collect
children's
books
and
I
had
this
this.
This
one
also
have
the
little
engine
that
could
and
and
others
like
like
that.
So
if
just
sit
back
relax,
I've
got
a
fire
back
here
for
you
to
be
able
to
relax
by,
and
let's
jump
into
this
once
again.
This
is
the
littlest
angel
written
by
charles
taswell,
and
let
me
get
my
glasses
on
so
that
I
don't
have
to
start
inventing
my
own
my
own
words.
A
The
littlest
angel
having
left
home
as
usual,
without
a
handkerchief
endeavored
to
hide
the
telltale
evidence
of
snuffing
by
snuffing
a
most
unangelic
sound,
was
so
unnerved
the
good
gatekeeper
that
he
did
something
that
he
had
never
done
before
in
all
eternity
he
blotted
the
page.
Do
you
all
know
what
snuffing
means?
It's
nothing,
I
think
snuffing
means
sniffing.
A
It
was
first
whispered
among
the
seraphim
and
cherubim
and
then
said
aloud
among
the
angels
and
archangels
that
he
didn't
even
look
like
an
angel
now
here
they
all
are
and
they're
hearing
him.
Here's
the
littlest
angel
down
here
and
look
at
him
covering
their
ears
and
going.
Oh,
my
goodness
look!
Oh!
Oh
just
now.
If
you
ever
heard
somebody
who
just
doesn't
sing
off
key
just
or
on
key
it's
just
a
little
off
key
and
we're
just
singing
oh
jingle
bells
jingle
bells
just
all
over
the
place.
A
Well,
that's
how
he
sounded
even
that
much
worse
than
that,
and
they
all
were
quite
correct.
He
didn't
his
halo
was
permanently
tarnished
where
he
held
on
to
it
with
one
hot
little
chubby
hand
while
he
ran-
and
he
was
always
running.
Furthermore,
even
when
he
stood
very
still,
it
stood,
it
never
behaved
as
a
halo
should
it
was
always
slipping
down
over
his
right
eye
or
over
his
left
eye,
or
else
just
for
pure
meanness
slipping
off
the
back
of
his
head
and
rolling
down
some
golden
street,
so
he'd
have
to
chase
after
it.
A
So
here
he
is.
Can
you
see
him
he's
out
here
running
on
the
celestial
steps?
Looking
for
things
and
then
look
back
here,
you
really
can't
see
and
get
a
little
bit
closer
here,
they're
going!
Oh
my
look
at
him.
Haven't
you
seen
somebody
haven't
you
seen
there
there's
somebody
like
that
they're
going!
Oh,
my
gosh
might
even
have
some
friends,
brothers
or
sisters
in
your
family
who
are
just
like
that.
A
The
reason
I
like
this
book
because
it
described
me
at
that
at
that
age-
I
was
just
incorrigible
now,
look
at
him
he's
flying
upside
down
right
here,
yes,
and
it
must
be
recorded
that
his
wings
were
never
useful.
Nor
ornamental
all
paradise
held
its
breath
when
the
littlest
angel
perched
himself
like
an
unhappy
fledgling
sparrow
on
the
very
edge
of
a
gilded
cloud
and
prepared
to
take
off.
A
A
His
way
to
the
place
of
judgment,
he
tried
to
postpone
the
dreaded
ordeal
by
loitering
along
the
street
of
the
guardian
angels,
pausing
a
few
times.
Moments
to
minutely
inspect
the
long
list
of
new
arrivals,
although
all
heaven
knew
that
he
couldn't
read
a
word
and
he
idled
more
than
several
immortal
moments
to
carefully
examine
a
display
of
harps.
A
Although
everyone
in
the
celestial
city
knew
that
he
couldn't
play
a
note
but
at
length
and
at
last
he
slowly
approached
a
doorway
which
was
surmounted
by
a
pair
of
golden
scales,
signifying
that
heavenly
justice
was
dispensed
within
to
the
littlest
angels.
Great
surprise.
He
heard
a
merry
voice,
singing.
A
A
Heavenly
then
polished
it
upon
his
robe,
a
procedure
which
added
nothing
to
his
already
untidy
and
appearance
and
then
tiptoed
in
the
singer,
who
was
known
as
the
understanding
angel
looked
down
at
the
small
culprit
and
the
littlest
angel
instantly
tried
to
make
himself
invisible
by
the
ingenious
process
of
withdrawing
his
head
into
his
robe.
Very
much
like
a
snapping
turtle
at
that
the
singer
laughed
a
jolly
heartwarming
sound
and
said
so.
You're
the
one
who's
been
making
heaven
so
unheavenly
come
here,
cherub
and
tell
me
all
about
it.
A
A
Yes
and
no
matter
what
the
arch
arch
angel
said,
he'd
only
swung
once
well
twice.
Oh
all
right,
then
he
swung
three
times
on
the
golden
cage,
but
there
was
just,
but
that
was
just
for
something
to
do.
That
was
the
whole
trouble.
There
wasn't
anything
for
a
small
angel
to
do
and
he
was
very
homesick
all
not
that
paradise
wasn't
beautiful,
but
the
earth
was
beautiful
too.
A
A
Now
here's
the
littlest
angel
talking
to
the
understanding
angel,
look
how
peaceful
and
kind
the
understanding
angel
appears
to
be
the
understanding
angel
smiled
and
in
his
eyes,
was
a
long
forgotten
memory
of
another
small
boy.
From
long
ago,
then
he
asked
the
littlest
angel.
What
would
make
him
most
happy
in
paradise?
A
A
If
only
I
could
have
that
understand,
understanding
angel
nodded
his
head
and
said
you
shall
have
it
and
he
promised
that
and
a
fleet-winged
heavenly
messenger
was
instantly
dispatched
to
bring
the
box
to
paradise
and
then,
in
all
those
timeless
days
that
followed,
everyone
wondered
at
the
great
change
in
the
little
and
the
littlest
angel
for
among
all
the
cherubs
in
god's
kingdom
he
was
the
most
happy.
His
conduct
was
above
the
slightest
reproach.
A
His
appearance
was
all
that
the
most
fastidious
could
wish
for
and
on
excursions
to
elysian
fields.
It
could
be
said
and
truly
said
that
he
flew
like
an
angel
and
look
at
him
here.
He
is
flying
with
the
other
angels
around
and
there's
another
little
angel
boy
right
here.
A
little
angel
girl
right
there
and
look
how
happy
the
littlest
angel
is.
A
All
the
angels
rejoice
and
their
voices
were
lifted
to
herald
the
miracle
of
miracles,
the
coming
of
the
christ,
john,
the
angels
and
archangels,
and
the
seraphim
and
cherubim
the
gatekeeper,
the
wing,
the
wingmaker
yes,
and
even
the
halo
smith,
put
aside
their
usual
tasks
to
prepare
their
gifts
for
the
blessed
infant
all,
but
the
littlest
angel.
He
set
himself
down
on
the
topmost
step
of
the
golden
stairs
and
anxiously
waited
for
inspiration.
A
What
could
he
give?
That
would
be
most
acceptable
to
the
son
of
god
at
one
time
he
dreamed
of
composing
a
lyric
of
a
lyric
hymn
of
adoration,
but
the
littlest
angel
was
woefully
wanting
in
a
musical
talent.
Then
he
grew
tremendously
excited
over
writing
a
prayer,
a
prayer
that
would
live
forever
in
the
hearts
of
men,
because
it
would
be
the
first
prayer
ever
to
be
heard
by
the
christ
child
that
the
littlest
angel
was
lamented
with
lamented
love,
lamentably
lacking
in
literal
literate
skill.
A
A
Gifts
of
such
rare
and
radiant
splendor
and
breathless
beauty
that
heaven
and
all
the
universe
were
lighted
by
the
mere
reflection
of
their
glory,
and
when
the
littlest
angels
saw
this,
he
suddenly
knew
that
his
gift
to
god's
child
was
irreverent
and
he
devoutly
wished
he
might
reclaim
his
shabby
gift.
It
was
ugly,
it
was
worthless
if
only
he
could
hide
it
away
from
the
sight
of
god
before
it
was
even
noticed,
but
it
was
too
late.
A
A
A
A
A
Why
had
he
ever
thought
that
the
box
was
so
wonderful?
Why
had
he
dreamed
that
such
utterly
useless
things
would
be
loved
by
the
blessed
infant
in
frantic
terror?
He
turned
to
run
and
hide
from
the
divine
wrath
of
the
heavenly
father,
but
he
stumbled
and
fell
with
a
horrified
whale
and
a
clatter
of
halo
rolled
in
a
ball
of
misery
to
the
very
foot
of
the
heavenly
throne.
A
A
Its
contents
are
of
the
earth
and
of
men,
and
my
son
is
born
to
be
king
of
both.
These
are
the
things
my
son,
too,
will
know
and
love
and
cherish
and
then,
regretfully,
will
leave
behind
him
when
his
task
is
done.
I
accept
this
gift.
In
the
name
of
the
child.
Jesus
born
of
mary
this
night
in
bethlehem,
there
was
a
breathless
pause
and
then
the
rough
unsightly
box
of
the
littlest
angel
began
to
blunt
to
glow
with
a
bright
unearthly
light.
A
Yet
earthly
eyes,
blinded
to
by
its
splendor,
could
never
know
that
the
lowly
gift
of
the
littlest
angel
was
all
men
would
call
forever
the
shining
star
of
bethlehem
the
end
and
here's
a
picture
of
the
shining
star
and
just
before
this.
This
is
where
the
littlest
angel
was
watching.
His
box
go
flying
up
into
the
sky.
A
Make
the
star
of
bethlehem-
I
love
this
this
little
book.
This
is
something
on
christmas
night
that
you
might
want
to
choose
to
do,
and
I
have
done
all
these
years
since
I
will
go
out
on
christmas
night
and
hope.
If
it's
not
a
cloudy
night,
I
will
go
out
and
I
will
look
for
what
it
is.
A
Some
people
think
is
the
star
of
bethlehem.
I
look
for
what
a
lot
of
people
call
the
north
star,
and
I
look
and
there's
this
one
big
bright
star
that
you
can
see
that's
in
the
north
sky,
and
I
look
at
that
and
I
think
of
this
book-
the
littlest
angel.
A
Thank
you
for
giving
me
an
opportunity
to
be
able
to
spend
this
time
with
you
today
in
your
story,
time
to
read
this
holiday
book
that
I
have
followed
for
more
years
than
I'm
willing
to
to
admit.
Ever
since
I
was
six
or
seven
years
old,
so
I'll,
let
you
guess
for
how
many
years
it
may
it
was
once
again
written
by
charles
taswell,
the
littlest
angel,
as
illustrated
by
paul
misage.
