2004

encourage
their
continued
growth
and
development.
Calvert
county
is
home
to
Black
owned
businesses
that
provide
families
supporting
jobs
and
careers
to
Residents
throughout
the
county,
serving
as
a
driving
force
for
the
Calvert
County
minority
business
Alliance,
the
bocc
proclaims
the
month
of
August
2023,
be
celebrated
and
recognized
as
national
black
business
month
in
Calvert
County.

Digital
counties
survey
award
recognition,
Calvert
County
government
has
been
honored
with
the
prestigious
recognition
of
placing
number
one
out
of
three
thousand
eligible
counties
with
the
population
of
one
hundred
and
fifty
thousand
or
less
by
the
digital
County
survey.
Calvert
County
government
has
continuously
demonstrated
its
dedication
to
Innovation
and
progress
through
a
variety
of
implemented.
Innovative
Technologies
such
as
workday
online,
permit
processing,
remote
911
capabilities
website.
Redesigns
live
streaming
with
closed
captioning,
automated
scheduling
software
golf
course,
management,
software
and
case
management,
software
in
an
effort
to
streamline
County
processes,
increase
efficiency
and
optimize
workloads.

celebrates
the
outstanding
achievement
of
earning
the
digital
County
survey
award
and
commends
the
department
of
Technology
services
for
this
prestigious
recognition.
Public
hearing
the
Department
of
Public
Works
DPW,
revising
the
solid
waste
tipping
fees
schedule
for
fiscal
year,
2024
Budget
on
May
23
2023
DPW
received
a
letter
from
Garnet
of
Maryland
Island
Inc,
with
the
proposed
fy24
tipping
fees
for
the
hauling
and
disposal
of
Municipal
solid
waste
from
the
appeal
transfer
station.
The
fees
are
increased,
based
on
100
of
the
consumer
pricing
index
for
all
Urban
consumers
change
for
the
preceding
calendar
year.
A
According
to
the
contract
extension
requirement,
with
a
6.62
percent
increase,
the
fy24
Tipping
fee
rate
at
the
appeal
transfer
station
for
residential
customers
shall
be
86.54
cents
per
ton
for
commercial
customers
and
residents
of
a
county
other
than
Calvert.
It
shall
be
set
at
95.77
per
ton.

the

approved
the
fy24
Tipping
fee
schedule
award,
employee
recognition,

employee
of

month

recognizes
individual
Excellence

policy.
The
TDR
Reserve
program
allows
citizens
to
sell
and
purchase
tdrs
through
Calvert
County
government,
instead
of
through
a
private
buyer
or
seller
negotiations.

Two
applications
to
purchase
a
total
of
15
tdrs
from
the
reserve
were
received
in
fiscal
year
23
and
are
pending
final
approval.
The
department
of
Planning
and
Zoning
made
offers
to
the
applicants
to
purchase
tdrs
acquired
in
the
previous
fiscal
year
at
the
approved
fair
market
value,
plus
an
administrative
fee
of
one
percent
for
a
total
of
four
thousand
five
hundred
and
forty
five
dollars
per
TDR.

Chapter
33
of
the
local
code
indicates
that
the
resale
price
is
to
be
set
equal
to
the
currently
approved
fair
market
value
of
the
TDR
plus
a
one
percent
administrative
fee.
Applying
the
currently
approved
FY
23
purchase
price
would
increase
the
cost
to
the
applicants
to
five
thousand
fifty
dollars
per
TDR
and
yield
a
profit
to
the
county
of
505
dollars
per
TDR.

Agricultural
Development,
commission

exploring
ideas
for
the
site
to
boost
local
Agriculture
and
establish
a
dependable
and
sustainable
food
value
chain
for
southern
Maryland
producers,
processors,
retailers

a
two

for
the
planning

of
the
Lothian
Mills
and
artisanal

grain
elevator.

The
Department
of
Economic
Development
has
provided
a
letter
of
support
for
the
grant
concept.

rmpif
grant
requires
a
25
percent
match.
The
project
has
two
components:
number
one:
funding
request
for
planning
and
design
of
Lothian
Mills
that
will
produce
shovel,
ready
blueprints
floor
plans
and
equipment
needs
for
a
fully
functional
commercial,
Mill,
capable
of
Steel
and
stone
grinding.
The
mill
will
utilize
Southern
Maryland
grown
wheat
to
produce
high
quality,
all-purpose
and
stone
ground.
Flour
number
two
launch
a
premium
wheat
growing
program
with
commodity
growers
in
southern
Maryland.
The
program
aims
to
incentivize
and
facilitate
the
cultivation
of
red
winter
wheat
for
high
quality
flower
production.
A
The
Mills
initial
opening
is
expected
to
require
at
least
500
Acres
of
harvested
red
winter
wheat
to
meet
its
needs.
According
to
the
2017
agricultural
census,
Calvert
County
grows
12
percent
129
452
bushels
of
the
wheat
in
southern
Maryland,
and
many
of
the
Growers
use
the
Lothian
facility
to
buy
and
store
their
grain.
This
project
would
provide
an
opportunity
for
additional
markets
and
potentially
increase
on
Farm
Revenue
after
discussion,
the
bocc
held
off
on
making
a
motion
until
additional
information
on
the
project
is
available.

regularly
scheduled
meeting
of
the
board
of
County
Commissioners
is
August.

Local
news,
the
Linda
l
Kelly
animal
shelter
invites
citizens
to
adopt
during
the
month-long
clear
the
shelter's
adoption
event,
beginning
Tuesday
August
1st
through
Thursday
August
31st.
The
shelter
will
waive
adoption
fees
for
adoptable
animals
during
this
campaign
made
possible
through
a
collaborative
effort
between
the
friends
of
the
Linda
l,
Kelly
animal
shelter
and
the
bocc
regular
adoption
procedures
still
apply.

During
the
event,
the
department
of
Planning
and
Zoning
invites
County
residents
to
participate
in
the
Calvert
County
zoning
ordinance
update
process.
Citizens
are
invited
to
participate
through
public
comment,
a
public
forum
and
observing
work
sessions
and
meetings
to
have
a
voice
in
shaping
local
development
and
land
use
policies
and
actively
contribute
to
the
well-being
and
future
of
the
community.

next
phase
of
updates
will
receive
and
consider
feedback
and
recommendations
on
article
22,
critical
area,
article
23,
marine
and
water
dependent
facilities
and
article
24
floodplain.
