Proclamations
black
business
month,
the
bocc
issued
a
proclamation
declaring
the
month
of
august
2022
is
to
be
celebrated
and
recognized
as
national
black
business
month.

owners
and
one
very
lovable
service
dog
appeared
before
the
commissioners
for
the
proclamation.
The
board
of
county
commissioners
urges
every
citizen
to
support
our
black-owned
businesses
national
night
out.

national
association
of
town
watch
sponsored
the
national
night
out
a
nationwide
crime,
drug
and
violence
prevention
program.
All
citizens
are
called
upon
to
join
the
calvert
alliance
against
substance,
abuse,
calver
county
sheriff's
office,
maryland
state
police,
barrack.
U,
and
the
national
association
of
town
watch
in
supporting
the
38th
annual
national
night
out
event,
which
was
held
on
august
2nd
national
night
out,
provides
a
unique
opportunity
for
calver
county
to
join
forces
with
thousands
of
communities
across
the
country
in
promoting
police,
community
partnerships
and
crime
prevention
efforts.

National
farmers
market
week
the
week
of
august
7th
through
the
13th
2022,
has
been
designated
as
national
farmers
market
week
in
calvert
county.
The
board
of
county
commissioners
of
calver
county
encourages
all
citizens
to
recognize
agriculture's
significant
role
in
contribution
to
the
local
economy,
environment
and
quality
of
life,
judy
holt
retirement,
the
bocc
recognized
judy
holt
planner,
two
of
the
department
of
planning
and
zoning
who
is
retiring
on
august
12
2022.

dedicating
19
years
of
faithful
and
loyal
service
to
the
citizens
of
calvert
county
and
the
state
of
maryland,
the
board
of
county
commissioners
of
calver
county
joins
with
the
community
co-workers,
family
and
friends
in
conveying
best
wishes

a
long,
healthy
and
happy
retirement
with
continued
success.
In
all
her
future
endeavors
judy
is
very
close
to
her
family
and
is
retiring
to
virginia
to
spend
more
time
with

Public
hearing,
calvert
stormwater
budget
adjustment,
the
bocc
held
a
public
hearing
regarding
storm
water
repairs
at
calvert,
pines
senior
center.

There
are
two
washouts
bordering
the
driveway
surrounding
the
campus
of
calverpine
senior
center
and
housing
facilities
due
to
failing
stormwater
systems.
An
environmental
and
engineering
study
was
conducted
by
the
calvert
county,
soil
conservation
district
to
assess
costs
for
repairs
to
the
washouts,
which
are
estimated
at
about
300
000
for
both
projects
due
to
rising
construction
costs.
Additional
funding
was
sought
from
the
state.

After
opening
the
floor
for
public
comment
and
receiving
none
staff
recommended
and
the
board
of
county
commissioners
voted
to
close
the
record
approve
and
adopt
the
resolution
enacting
budget
adjustment
number
zero.
Zero
one
cip,
the
board
president,
was
authorized
to
sign
the
capital,
grant
application
affidavit
for
lobbying
certification,
affidavit
for
religious
certification
and
any
other
documents
required
by
the
state
of
maryland
to
make
capital
funding
available

construction

storm
water
conveyance
system.

plan
act
arpa
budget
adjustment.

arpa
funds
were
appropriated
through
the
state
of
maryland
in
two
installments
to
various
state
and
local
agencies,
in
an
effort
to
cover
any
necessary
expenditures
incurred
due
to
the
public
health
emergency
and
recovery
efforts.

second
installment
of
eight
million
nine
hundred
eighty
five
thousand
nine
hundred
and
forty
eight
dollars
and
fifty
cents
will
increase
the
calvert
county
fy
2023
adopted
budget
after
receiving
public
comment.

county
commissioners
appointed
eight
citizens
to
the
police,
accountability
board.
The
seat
for
a
mental
health
practitioner
remained
vacant.
Leslie
parker
is
a
qualified
mental
health
practitioner
applicant
for
the
vacant
seat.
A
Staff
recommended
that
the
board
consider
the
appointment
of
leslie
parker
as
a
mental
health
practitioner
to
the
police
accountability
board
for
a
three-year
term.
The
motion
was
approved,
consent,
the
department
of
public
safety,
somerset
and
queen
anne's
county
fire,
ems,
hazardous
materials
and
special
operation.
Mutual
aid
agreements
to
better
prepare
for
a
marine
emergency
on
the
chesapeake
bay
calvert
county
public
safety
is
taking
the
steps
necessary
to
enter
a
formal
mutual
aid
agreements
with
the
counties
located
on
the
eastern
shore
of
the
chesapeake
bay.

items
were
adopted
as
presented
new
business
department
of
human
resources.

memorandum
of
understanding
e-verify
is
a
free
web-based
system
that
allows
enrolled
employers
to
confirm
the
eligibility
of
their
employees
to
work
in
the
united
states.

employers
verify
the
identity
and
employment
eligibility
of
newly
hired
employees
by
electronically
matching
information
provided
by
employees
on
the
form,
I-9,
employment,
eligibility,
verification
against
records
available
to
the
social
security

requested
a
solomon's
volunteer
rescue
squad
and

apparatus
grant
for
an
early
replacement
of
an
ambulance
due
to
excessive

for

department
and
rescue
squad
and
new
apparatus
grant
medics,

and

for
calvert
county
advanced
life
support.

All
requests
were
approved:
department
of
economic
development,
rural
maryland,
economic
development
grant,
fund,
calvert,
county
and
regional
proposed
projects.
In
february,
2022,
governor
larry
hogan
announced
that
50
million
dollars
in
grant
funds
would
be
made
available
to
boost
economic
development
activity,
stimulate
private
sector
investment
and
grow
jobs
in
the
state's
rural
regions.

The
fiscal
impact
is
380
thousand
dollars
in
matching
funds
of
which
250
000
is
already
included
in
the
capital
budget.
For
an
open-air
multi-use
pavilion,
the
remaining
fiscal
impact
could
stem
from
grant
support
staff
recommended
that
the
bocc
sign
a
letter
of
support
for
the
proposed
calvert
county
and
regional
project
list
and
grant
applications
for
submission
to
the
tri-county
council
for
inclusion
in
their
grant
submission
to
the
maryland
department
of
commerce.

The
pilot
program
ran
for
three
consecutive
months
from
january
through
march
of
2022.
During
this
trial
period,
80
department
of
public
works,
octane
vehicles
were
used,
staff
fueled
at
various
locations
throughout
the
county
data
was
collected
and
compared
to
the
same
number
of
vehicles
used
over
the
last
three
years.
Although
the
price
of
fuel
has
more
than
doubled
since
2020
public
works,
believes,
it
has
demonstrated
that
using
the
fleet
services
card
reduces
the
cost
of
paying
at
the
pump
for
severe
weather
response.

Operations
reduces
the
amount
of
fuel
used
when
working
in
the
northern
and
southern
sectors
of
the
county
and
eliminates
windshield
time
paying
an
employee
to
go
up
an
hour
or
more
to
travel
to
an
approved,
fueling
location.

works
recommended
one.
The
board
of
county
commissioners
endorsed
the
wex
fuel
card
program
across
all
departments
within
calver
county
government.

direct
public
works
to
plan
and
implement
a
fielding
plan
for
each
department
and
three
establish
a
policy
to
leverage
the
county
bulk
fuel
station
to
the
maximum
extent
practicable.

the
