condolences

loss

Weems.
Additionally,
recognition
was
shared
for
the
anniversary
of
the
commemoration
and
ratification
of
the
first
10
Amendments
of
the
U.S
Constitution,
which
is
most
commonly
known
as
the
Bill
of
Rights
Proclamation
designated
driver
campaign
recognition.
The
Calvert
alliance
against
substance
abuse
Inc
is
sponsoring
a
county-wide
impaired,
driving
prevention
campaign
from
December
1st
2022
through
January,
2nd
2023.

The
designated
driver
campaign
provides
a
unique
opportunity
for
Calvert
County
restaurants,
clubs
bars
and
Civic
and
service
organizations
to
join
forces
with
the
Calvert
alliance
against
substance
abuse,
local
law
enforcement
and
Calvert
County
residents
in
promoting
Cooperative
impaired
driving
prevention
efforts.
The
bocc
encouraged
all
area,
restaurants,
clubs
bars
Civic
and
service
organizations,
and
the
citizens
of
Calvert
County
join
in
supporting
the
designated
driver
campaign
from
December
1st
2022
through
January,
2nd
2023.

The
bocc
recognized
District
2,
commissioner
Christopher
J
gadway
for
his
service
to
the
citizens
of
Calvert
County
Commissioner
gadway
has
been
a
vocal
advocate
for
the
County's
fire
rescue
EMS
working
with
his
fellow
Commissioners
to
enhance
service
to
the
citizens
of
the
county.
Commissioner
gadway
worked
diligently
to
improve
the
relationship
between
the
board
of
County
Commissioners
and
the
Calvert
County
Board
of
Education,
with
the
goal
of
lending
support
to
parents
and
students.
By
advocating
for
open
communication.
A
Commissioner
gadway
has
also
been
a
dedicated
supporter
of
animal
rights,
the
Linda
l,
Kelly
animal
shelter
and
volunteering
his
time
to
many
local
organizations.
The

extends
sincerest
congratulations
to
commissioner
gadway
for
his
dedicated
service
following
his
appointment
by
Governor
Lawrence
Larry
Hogan,
to
complete
the
last
two
years
of
former
County
Commissioner

McConkey

dedicated
service

the
citizens
of

County
Commissioner
McConkey
served
the
past
four
years

a
county
commissioner
and
previously
served
on

Calvert
County

he
advocated
for
the
rights
of
students
and
parents.
Commissioner
McConkey
has
also
been
a
dedicated
volunteer
in
many
local
organizations
and
giving
back
to
his
community.

Weems

Weems,
often
recognized

Statesman

board

served

both
President

Vice
President

the
board.
Commissioner
Weems
has
been
active
in
Civic
and
organizational
groups,

serving

chair

the
Tri-County
Council
for
southern
Maryland,
for
numerous
terms
and
supporting
many
charitable
athletic
and
educational
organizations
and
activity
throughout
the
county.

lifelong
resident
of
Calvert
County
Commissioner
Weems
has
been
a
local
businessman
for
over
33
years,
operating
the
oldest
family-owned
liquor
store
in
Calvert
County.

employee

the
month
award,
acknowledges
individual
Excellence

Superior
job
performance
and

special
individual
efforts

go
above

the
employees,

is
pleased
to
announce
that
Lisa
viverette
Human
Resources
analyst

from
the
Department
of
Human
Resources,
was
selected
as
the
December
2022
Employee
of
the
Month
employee
recognition
committee
team,
Excellence
award,
Costa
Road
accident
Response
Team,
the
team
Excellence
award
recognizes
employee,
who
have
excelled
as
a
group
and
displayed
cooperation
and
teamwork
in
support
of
a
common
goal
or
project
on
August
13
2022.

11-person
team
responded
to
a
traffic
accident
in
Lusby
and
acted
swiftly
and
collaboratively
to
ensure
the
safety
and
provide
life-saving
care
to
an
injured
citizen.

budget
adjustment,
Fleet
Maintenance,
request
related
to
an
insurance
refund
for
a
mini
dump
truck
that
was
scheduled
for
replacement
in
FY
2023
budget
and
was
totaled
in
an
accident
and
deemed
a
total
loss.
Department
of
Economic
Development
rural
Maryland
Council
FY
2023
rural
Maryland
Prosperity
investment
fund
Grant,
along
with
matching
funds
from
the
rule,
Maryland
Economic
Development
Fund
to
support
relocating
the
existing
underground,
Verizon
structures,
cable
facilities
and
the
smeco
electric
lines
for
the
development
of
Armory
Square.
A
These
consent
calendar
items
were
adopted
as
presented
in
Old
business
department
of
Parks
and
Recreation
fee
schedule
update
for
calendar
year,
2023,
the
department
of
Parks
and
Recreation
collects
revenues
and
fees
for
many
programs
and
Facilities
throughout
Calvert
County.
This
includes
everything
from
Summer,
Camps
swim,
lessons,
camping
reservations,
daily
admissions,
food
sales
and
more.

The
department
of
Parks
and
Recreation
is
recommending
changes
for
calendar
year
2023
to
account
for
changes
in
community
needs,
cost
of
the
goods
program
offerings
and
the
addition
of
new
programs
and
services
changes
recommended
in
the
FY
2023
fee
schedule
are
prompted
by
the
increasing
cost
of
Labor
goods
and
services.
Modest
increases
in
fees
are
recommended
for
Aquatics,
Sports
programs
and
golf
primarily.
These
increases
and
new
fees
are
in
line
with
surrounding
counties
yet
still
lower
to
ensure
all
Calvert.

The
program
assesses
Mill,
Creek
and
11
other
tributaries
fishing,
Plum
Point,
Parkers,
Hall
hunting
battle,
Island
Saint,
Leonard,
Helens,
Hungerford
and
flag
Harbor
Dr
Laura
Harris
of
CBL
presented
a
high-level
overview
of
the
2021
and
2022
results
from
tidal
water
monitoring.
Overall,
the
water
quality
of
the
Mill
Creek
system
is
slowly
degrading
over
time
in
terms
of
bottom
water
dissolved
oxygen
and
chlorophyll.
A
concentrations
Solomon's
Harbor
continues
to
experience
periods
of
hypoxia
low,
dissolved
oxygen
levels
that
can
impair
habitat
suitability
and
stress
organisms.
A
Water
quality
is
vital
for
submerged
aquatic
vegetation,
which
provides
food
and
habitat
for
marine
life,
oxygenates
the
water
and
traps
sediment
and
nutrient
runoff
water
Clarity
in
Mill
Creek
declined
in
2022.
There
was
generally
inadequate
levels
of
light
reaching
the
floor
for
submerged
aquatic
vegetation
growth.
The
11
tributary
Creeks
have
less
historical
data
thus
far,
there
do
not
appear
to
be
any
long-term
trends
in
The
Creeks,
except
for
degrading
Trends
in
some
Creeks
for
dissolved
oxygen,
St,
Leonard,
Battle,
Creek
and
Parker's
Creek
algal
blooms
were
common
throughout
the
county
in
both
2021
and
2022.

The
study

the

voted

adopt
an
emotion
directing
staff
to
one
continue:
monitoring,
Mill
Creek
and
the
tributaries
to
measure
the
effect
of
local
climate,
variances,
best
management
practices,
bmps
and
identify
areas
needing
water
quality
improvements.
Two
continue
supporting
sewer
upgrades,
bmps,
riparian
and
vegetative
buffers
and
the
use
of
pump-out
facilities
by
boaters
and
three
continue
interpreting
the
tributary's
water
quality
in
the
context
of
adjacent
Patuxent
River
conditions
in
other
Calvert
County
local
news.

The
bocc
voted
and
adopted
amendments
to
the
Calvert
County
comprehensive
plan.
Following
a
public
hearing
held
Tuesday
November
29
2022,
the
adopted
amendments
reduce
or
eliminate
future
expansions
for
Huntingtown
Lusby,
Prince,
Frederick
and
Solomon's
Town
centers.
The
adopted
amendments
can
be
viewed

Calvert,
the
newly
elected
Board
of
County,
Commissioners
and
Sheriff
will
be
officially
sworn
into
office.

Calvert

emergency
communications
center
ECC
recently
implemented
the
automated
secure
alarm.
Protocol.
Asap
ASAP
provides
direct
communication
between
the
ecc's
computer-aided
dispatch
system
and
the
alarm
system.
Monitoring

This
connection,
automates
911
notification
during
an
alarm
activation
and
reduces
the
time
for
emergency
services
to
be
dispatched.
Calvert
county
is
the
third
in
the
state
and
116th
in
the
United
States
to
use
the
technology.

most
services
will
be
closed.
