A
Hi,
it's
me
Brandi
animal
keratin
at
the
Linda
l,
Kelly
animal
shelter
and
today,
I
have
with
me
Apollo
a
puppy
puppy.
He
is
a
very
sweet
boy
once
he
gets
to
know
you
he's
a
little
scared.
I,
don't
know
how
socialized
he
was
when
you
know
he
was
his
little
lifespan.
He's
had
so
far
took
him
a
little
while
to
learn
how
to
be
on
a
leash.
A
B
A
Other
dogs,
yes,
he
does
do
well
with
other
dogs.
How
old
you
say:
I,
don't.
A
He
is
he's
a
couple
months
old,
but
yeah
I
know
he
is,
has
his
age-appropriate
vaccines
neuter
neutered
microchipped
and
he
is
ready
to
go
to
his
forever
home
yeah.
B
He
had
a
very
playful
morning
playing
with
another
puppy,
so
he
is
a
little
child.
B
A
D
Today,
I'm
going
to
focus
on
FIV
for
frame
of
reference,
FIV
and
cats
has
many
similarities
to
HIV
in
humans.
That
being
said,
FIV
cannot
be
spread
to
humans
or
any
other
species.
Besides,
other
cats,
FIV
can
eventually
result
in
feline,
AIDS
and
other
long-term
diseases.
However,
many
cats
have
a
long
period
where
they
are
asymptomatic.
In
other
words,
they
are
free
from
Clinical
signs.
D
D
Fiv
is
also
far
less
common
than
we
used
to
think.
Recent
Studies
have
found
that
only
two
to
three
percent
of
the
cat
population
even
has
FIV.
Most
cases
of
FIV
occur
in
outdoor
unneutered,
adult
male
cats.
This
is
because
transmission
of
the
virus
is
mostly
limited
to
deep,
penetrating
bites
bites
that
will
be
sustained
when
the
cats
get
into
a
serious
fight.
D
Most
of
the
time,
cats
that
are
spayed
and
neutered
do
not
get
into
serious
fights
with
each
other,
the
Linda
Kelly
animal
shelter
tests,
all
adoptable
cats
for
FIV
and
felv
ically.
We
can
perform
this
testing
in-house
in
under
15
minutes,
using
only
a
few
drops
of
blood
kittens
that
test
positive
for
FIV,
when
they're
under
six
months
old
should
eventually
be
retested
after
they
reach
six
months
of
age.
This
is
because
antibodies
can
be
passed
down
from
the
mother
cat
and
cause
a
false
positive
on
the
test.
D
Most
kittens
end
up
testing
negative
once
they're
over
six
months
old.
You
may
be
thinking
to
yourself
what
about
an
FIV
vaccine?
Fiv
vaccines
do
exist,
however,
they're
generally
not
recommended.
This
is
because
they
don't
convey
a
high
level
of
immunity
and
they
cause
the
cat
to
test
positive
on
all
the
commonly
used
in-house
tests.
D
So
what's
the
take-home
message
about
FIV,
the
main
things
to
remember
are
the
FIV
is
relatively
rare.
It
cannot
be
transmitted
to
people
and
FIV.
Positive
cats
generally
only
infect
other
cats
through
deep,
penetrating
bites
cat
friendly
FIV
positive
cat
should
have
no
issues
spreading
FIV
to
other
cats
and
most
FIV
positive
cats
live
healthy,
relatively
normal
lives.
D
E
C
B
Hey
I'm
Hannah,
a
technician
at
the
Linda
Kelly
animal
shelter
and
we
have
another
Super
cutie.
We
have
a
the
week
of
the
babies,
a
foster
baby,
his
name
Twitter.
Oh
look
at
this
little
floof
ball.
He
is
literally
the
sweetest
little
thing.
Normally
we
don't
bring
them.
This
small
he's
wild
child
look
at
this
guy,
but
we
wanted
to
talk
to
you
guys
about
fostering
and
a
short-term
commitment,
because
you
just
are
fostering.
So
we
do.
B
He
came
in
as
a
single
kitten
with
really
goopy
eyes,
and
one
of
our
other
health
technicians
is
fostering
him
until
he's
available
for
adoption.
So
with
that,
you
know
it's
super
helpful
he's
not
in
the
shelter
he's
getting
interaction,
he's
learning
how
to
be
a
cat,
and
we
do
get.
You
know
these
quite
often.
So
it's
super
helpful
having
people
fostering
cats,
kittens
dogs.
Sometimes
we
get
little
littles
puppies.
A
A
So
the
point
of
the
point
of
like
the
fostering
would
be
because
he
is
too
little.
He
does
kind
of
need
a
little
bit
of
help
when
he
first
came
in.
He
wasn't
necessarily
eating
on
his
own.
He
was
eating,
but
he
needed
a
little
bit
of
help.
So
that's
you
know
a
part
of
it
is
trying
to
get
them
fed.
They
come
in
a
lot
smaller
than
that.
They.
A
B
B
A
A
A
So
cute
Jean,
so
if
you
would
like
to
volunteer,
please
give
us
a
call
or
go
to
our
website.
I'm,
pretty
sure
all
the
forms
are
on
there.
We
could
use
dog
walkers
cat
cuddlers
pretty
much.
You
know
laundry
folders.
