D
Thank
you
to
the
city
councilors
for
turning
out
of
this
very
special
meeting
for
health
for
the
for
the
purposes
of
this
public
hearing.
The
timing
on
this
grant
came
through
at
the
last
second,
we
tried
to
get
it
to
the
last
meeting.
We
didn't
have
enough
advertising
time,
so
here
we
are
on
this
beautiful
summer
night.
So,
in
the
reason
we're
here
is
the
city
of
Carol
is
holding
this
public
hearing
for
the
purpose
of
the
grant.
B
B
You
know
public
transportation
like
the
Aroostook
regional
transportation
system,
which
is
a
very
helpful
system,
but
because
it's
it's
it's
unable
to
meet
the
needs
of
personalized
transportation.
In
other
words,
you
know
someone
may
need
to
go
to
Presque
Isle
for
a
visit
somewhere
and
they
may
be
dropped
off
at
8
o'clock
in
the
morning,
and
the
bus
won't
be
back
to
pick
them
up
until
like
4
o'clock
in
the
afternoon.
B
But
we
believe
that
it's
important
that
we
set
up
a
more
personalized
transportation
service
so
that
when
people
call
they
want
to
go,
you
know
to
get
their
hair
done
or
they
want
to
go
to
church
or
they
want
to
go
to
socialize.
We
know
that
one
of
the
biggest
problems
for
elders
is
socialization,
and
if
people
do
not
have
adequate
opportunity
to
meet
and
be
with
other
people,
they
tend
to
decline
in
health
and
we
believe,
a
transportation
system
that
could
provide
benefits
like
that
would
be
very
important.
B
We
believe
we
can
build
a
system
using
primarily
volunteer
drivers
or
other
subsidized
employment
and
that
we
can
build
a
system
that
would
be
very
responsive
just
within
the
Cariboo,
the
area
that
what
we're
considering
servicing
is
the
same
area
covered
by
the
caribou
ambulance
service
it'd
be
very
a
a
fairly
small
area
and
we
built
a
budget
for
that
program
that
we
think
is
sustainable
over
time
and
the
project
is
for
individuals,
65
and
over
or
people
with
vision,
impaired
or
other
disability.
So
that
would
be
the
clientele
that
we'd
be
serving.
B
So
this
program
would
be
people
over
65
and
they're
disabled
and
that's
the
system
that
can
mention
the
software
system.
That
will
be
part
of
this
grant.
That
will
help
us
do
that
transportation
process
very
efficiently.
So
again,
I
thank
you
for
the
opportunity
to
address
tonight
and
Sharon
Bertha's
attendings
with
the
Aroostook
Agency
on
Aging
and.
E
Thank
you.
I
am
really
pleased
that
communities
are
looking
at
developing
networks
of
transportation
that
work
cooperatively,
cooperatively
with
other
transportation
networks
that
are
out
there
more
and
more
I
see
people
that
are
not
driving.
I
think
that
the
common
thing
that
we
think
of
is
the
older
woman
that
never
drove
at
all
and
she
loses
her
spouse
and,
and
that's
the
common
thought
when
we're
when
we're
thinking
about
lack
of
transportation.
But
what
I'm
seeing
is
more
and
more
men
that
are
no
longer
able
to
drive,
and
it's
not
age-related.
E
E
Logistic
care
is
there
bill,
didn't
mention
logistic
here,
but
that
is
the
transportation
system
for
the
state
of
Maine.
Logistic
here
is
very
responsive
to
people
that
have
main
care,
but
there's
a
huge
gap
for
medical
transportation,
with
people
that
do
not
have
main
care
and
so
working
with
one
gentleman.
This
morning
just
this
morning
and
that's
just
one
situation,
he
wasn't
able
he
had
to
pay,
take
money
out
of
his
pocket
to
be
able
to
get
his
blood
work
done
and
to
be
able
to
get
to
his
medical
appointment
to
have
his
pacemaker
checked.
E
So
I
think
that
working
again
to
be
able
to
look
at
grants
to
meet
or
fill
the
gaps
that
are
there
with
transportation
is
really
important
in
our
state.
County
we're
considered
frontier
we're
not
just
rural
we're
frontier
and
we
are
really
ahead
of
many
of
the
communities
in
the
state
of
Maine
I.
Believe
Aroostook
County
has
a
great
creative
population
that
works
to
be
able
to
fill
those
gaps
and
to
meet
the
needs
of
their
constituents.
Thanks.
