My name is emily love, I'm a respiratory therapist at carroll hospital. My first.

Experience with the pandemic was that there was just so many things that were unknown to us.

A

We really didn't know what to expect, and it was very scary to have so many unknowns.

A

Usually, we have a plan there's a plan of care with kovid. It really was a trial and error.

A

Learn as you go experience as a respiratory therapist, if you're a patient you're having.

Trouble breathing your oxygen starts to drop, we're the people that the nurses call we come.

A

Into the room we'll assess you put you on oxygen, there's different therapies that we can use.

A

With covid, most of the therapies that we were using was high flow oxygen and bipap, and then.

Worst case scenario, we would also be the ones helping the doctors putting you on a ventilator.

A

And from there we actually would manage the ventilator. A lot of people think that it's the.

A

Doctors and the nurses, who are doing all of those things, but it's actually respiratory therapists.

A

And this pandemic has really highlighted how vital we are to the health care system. The most.

Gratifying part of my job is watching people walk out on their own power, especially after.

A

Having kovid or maybe they go to pulmonary rehab, and they do really well, and you see that they're.

A

Improving every day or getting somebody off oxygen, those are all the really gratifying things you.

A

Know we work with everyone from babies to older adults, so helping a baby take their first breath.

A

All of those things are super gratifying. My biggest message to the community is: please get.

A

Vaccinated or at least open your mind and consider it put your politics aside, think.

A

About the people that depend on you every day, I have two kids, my you know my husband needs me.

A

My kids need me: what would I do if I were in the hospital for a month? Who would care for my kids.

A

You know they need their mom, someone needs you, someone needs you to be here.
