CFCS TechSIG meeting notes 03/23/2021
1. Dick - loves his new Amazon Echo Dot w/clock. Time changes automagically when we switch to/from DST.
2. Mike - loves his Amazon Echo Wall Clock - pairs to other Echo devices via Bluetooth and only connects to one device when set up.
3. Sean - demonstrated internal speed test, installed on a local computer (running Ubuntu Server). OpenSpeedTest is a neat project.
4. Paul - cycling switch for a/c in a car. Paul modified a switch (essentially cut it in half) to work to his needs.
5. Paul - having issues with 10 yr old Epson Stylus Photo 1400 ink jet printer head clogging. Unable to get head to stop in the middle AND open top for cleaning.
6. Pete - just ordered Apple AirPods Max.
7. Gary - Just ordered two Rope Hoist Block and Tackle to aid in re-siding his home.
8. Stan - attempted to install a 6000 lumens LED deformable flood light (inside), but the socket on the ceiling failed during the install. Purchased for $15 at Ollie's Bargain Outlet. Similar to this light.
9. Mike - $5B lawsuit filed against Google for false incognito mode (see separate e-mail already sent by Mike)
10. Sean - regarding privacy/tracking, consider setting up a Raspberry Pi running pi-hole as a network-wide ad blocking tool.
11. Mike - there is an effort by Sony and Samsung (possibly others) to improve the sound of their large screen televisions.
12. Sean - Tablo now offers standalone units that have HDMI output.
13. Ken - Installed LED Garage Lights 140W and loves them. Replaced fluorescent bulbs.
14. Hewie - had issue with Chromebook in test mode and gained a boot problem. Used another Chromebook to create a USB installer.

speed:

this
local
speed
test
is

kind

cool
because
it
allows
me
to
test
the
connected

connection
speed
between
a
computer
on
my
network

server.

how
to
go
about
installing

be
installed
on

raspberry

cycling
switch
for
air
conditioning

car.
Basically,
it
closes
at
one
pressure.

opens
at
another
pressure,
they
go
bad
and
they

not
open
or
they

close

pressures.
But
sometimes
you
just
want
to
jump
it
out
and
you
got
to
get
a
little
wire
and
you

to
get
down
into
connector
and
I've
changed
less
of
these.

to
mess

what

really
interesting
and
after
I
took
it
apart,
how
does
this
thing
work?
Basically,
the
this
is
the
other
half

pressure
comes
in
through
this
connector
on
the
pipe,

it
goes

little
disc,

is
probably
like
a
calibrated
disc.

can't
see
it
it's
not
flat,
but

she's
got
this
printer,

epson
high-end
printer.
It's
like
about
a
foot
and
a
half
long

two
feet
long.
It
takes
very
wide
papers

does
professional
quality
printing
it
stopped
working
and
since
she's
not
using
it,
she
hasn't
been
using
it
and
it's
connected
to
her
macintosh
g4,
an
oldie
but
goldie.
She
still
uses
the
computer
for
for
editing
and
a
lot
of
other
graphic
things,
but
she
doesn't
print
from
it
anymore.

if,

you,

you
go
into
the
utility
to
clean
the
head-
and
it
doesn't
work
anymore,
you're
kind
of
like
out
of
luck-
so
I
I
googled
and
what
they've
got
now
is
this:
you
have
to
get
the
carriage
with
the
printhead
in
the
middle
of
the
printer
and
then
you
connect
this
syringe
right
to
the
tube
and
the
other
end
goes
on
the
male
portion
of
the
print
head.
And
then
you
inject
the
solution,
and
you
know
you
can
select.

can
inject
as
much
or
as
little
as
you
like,
and
hopefully
it'll
clear
up
the
printhead.
If
it's
really
got
some
hardened
ink
in
there,
so
there's
all
different
solutions
that
people
use.
You
can
buy
the
regular
stuff,
which
I
don't
know
what
it
is,
but
there's
a
stuff
that
apple
sells.
But
people
use
a
alcohol
and
a
windex
combination.

use
deionized
water
and
alcohol
people
are
using
all
kinds
of
stuff.
I
don't
know
what
the
best
is
yet
and
I
haven't
actually
got
to
this
level
that
I
gotta
do
this
kind
of
surgery
on
it.
But
the
one
problem
I
had
was
that
the
videos
I've
seen
on
this
printer
when
the
carriage
is
in
the
home
position
there's
a
door
on
the
on
the
container
that
houses
all
the
inks
and
you
can
open
up
the
door.

you
can't
open
up
the
door
in
the
middle
in
the
middle
of
the
printer.
It's
got
to
be
all
the
way
on
the
right
at
the
home
position
and
that's
not
where
you
want
to
clean,
because
you
got
to
put
paper
towels
under
this
to
catch
the
cleaning
solution,
so
I
may
have
to
disassemble
the
printer
to
get
the
top
off,
so
I
can
move
the
carriage
in
the
middle.

I'm
right
in
the
middle
of
doing
test
pages,
and
you
know
thankfully,
she's
got
some
inch,
because
if
the
ink
is
low,
the
printer,
the
printer
just
shuts
down
it,
won't
let
you
do
anything.
So
you

I
put

inks
in
it
and
I
just
started
on
this
like
yesterday.
I've
been
coming
up
to
speed
for
the
last
week,
but
I
just
physically
started
yesterday.
So
that's
that's
kind
of
where
I
am.

that's
probably
part
of
the
problem
was
taught
before
it
stopped
working.
I
remember
she,
she
was
trying
to
use
it
and
put
inks
in
it
and
it
just
wasn't
pricking
the
yellow.
That
was
the
biggest
problem
so
before
I
ripped
it
apart
and
before
I
start
squirting
your
solution
in
there.
You
know
that
wasn't
step
one
step.
One
was,
you
know,
step
one
to
step,
one
finding
out:
what's
not
really
working.

yeah,
it's
been
sitting
there
for
so
that's
probably
made
the
problem
worse,
but
it
is
what
it
is.

anyway,
the
last
test
page

printed
was
better
than
I
expected.
So,
if
I
could,

get
away
with
doing
a
nozzle
cleaning
without
having
to
disassemble
this
and
putting
all
this
crap
fluid
through
it.

be
nice,

where
it

other

didn't

counters

they
count
the
ink
strokes

because
there's
a
pad
and
every

printer
has
got
a
pad.

inkjet
printer's
got

pad

pad
fills
up,
they
consider
the
printer
done
and
they
count
the
amount
of
ink,
strokes
or
nozzle.

major

a

thing
to
open
it
up,

to
clean
it
out,
got
to
get
a
pad,
and
then
you
got
to
reset
the
counter
which
I
read
about
that
it
requires
software
and
all
kinds
of
you

unless
you're

the
business,
I'm
not
sure
you
know
I
can
pull
that
off
or
anybody
else
around.

knows
how
to
pull
that
off.
But
I
didn't
pay
much
attention
to
that.

all
these
companies,

they
love

sell

make
their

is
on
my
airplane
and
I

some
of
you
aren't
gonna.

understand

landing
a
couple
weeks
ago-

instrument-
landing
needles
called
the
localizer,
and
that
basically
gives
me

mean
I

it
unless

instrument
conditions,
and
you
can't
see-
and
it
allows
you
to
align
yourself
visually
with
the
center
line
of
the
runway
so
and
when
you're
to
the
left.
The
tail
is
going
to
fly
to

right

tells
it
slide
to
the
left
and
what
it
is
it's
you
can
see.

I
notice-

I

two
of
these
in
the
airplane-

deflection
wasn't
right:

swinging

instrument

head

signal

find
a
bad
capacitor.

power
supply,
it's
got
a
power
supply
inside

unit
it
takes
12
volts.
Then
it
makes
nine
volts
and
four
volts,
but
you
know
this
was
on
the
input
to
the
power
supply.
I'm
saying
to
myself:
that's
not
going
to
do
jack.
What's
that
going
to
change,
but
you
know
I
spent
the
week
looking
at
it
and
I
let
it
run
all
day
to
see
if
there's
any
change,
if
anything
would
stop.
