Description
As part of Charleston County School District's Capital Programs/Facilities Management media tour on August 5, 2022, Edith L. Frierson Elementary School's principal, Dr. Deborah Davis-Cummings, and CCSD's Interim Associate of Facilities Management, Steve Hamer, spoke about the renovation project at the school. All of the classrooms inside the building have been converted to Montessori classrooms over a three-year period.
A
We're
here
at
fryerson
montessori
school,
to
show
a
little
bit
about
the
work
that
we've
done
here
over
the
summer.
This
project
started
several
years
ago
and
we're
really
happy
to
be
able
to
provide
a
service
and
a
platform
for
education
for
our
for
our
children
in
this
district.
You'll
see
also
that
one
of
the
key
things
that
we're
doing
over
the
summer
is
summer
cleanings.
A
That's
an
opportunity
for
us
to
get
into
the
schools
and
get
them
completely
clean
and
completely
ready
for
the
students
and
the
teachers
and
the
principals
to
come
occupy
them
in
just
a
few
days
now.
So
that's
a
little
bit
about
what
we're
trying
to
accomplish
this
summer
and
what
facility
management
is
doing
to
get
the
schools
ready.
B
This
building
has
been
renovated
from
a
1953
landmark
to
this
beautiful
montessori
configuration
and
so
we're
very
proud
to
be
here
at
fryerson
and
I'd
love
to
show
you
the
renovations
that
are
being
done
this
summer.
We
have
gotten
to
the
point
where
we
are
primary
lower
elementary
and
upper
elementary.
We
have
the
beginning
configurations
of
a
full
montessori
program,
so
the
district
charleston
county
school
district
has
done
a
wonderful
job
of
supporting
this
community.
B
We
have
three
primary
classes:
three
lower
l,
and
now
we
have
two
upper
l
classrooms.
That
configuration
is
what
we're
especially
proud
of.
The
district
has
spent
a
great
amount
of
money
and
time
and
energy
transforming
this
building
so
that
it
is
truly
a
full
montessori
program
and
so
we're
very
proud
of
the
work
that
has
happened.
