Grant
us
the
courage
to
walk
on
college
campuses,
enter
the
armed
forces
or
the
workforce
with
the
spirit
of
humility,
along
with
bulldog
pride,
as
you
fill
our
minds
with
determination
to
accomplish
every
goal.
Please
stay
by
our
side,
help
us
to
follow
in
the
footsteps
of
our
precious
alumni
and
pay
it
forward
to
us
as
we
climb
the
ladder
of
success
father.
We
thank
you
and
give
you
all
the
praise
and
glory
once
again,
lord.
We
thank
you
and
give
you
all.
The
praise
and
glory
amen.

On
behalf

the
burke
high
school
senior
class
of
2022,
we
would
like
to
welcome
our
welcome
you
to
our
graduation
ceremony.
Today
we
are
gathered
at
the
north
charleston
performing
arts
center
this
last
time
as
a
class.
We
are
here
to
celebrate
one
of
the
most
significant
milestones
in
our
lives.
Thus
far,
we
would
like
to
thank
our
parents,
families
and
friends
for
guiding
us
along
the
way
and
for
showing
patients
while
teaching
us
about
life.

he's
here,
please
stand,
I
want
to
thank
all
of
you
for
being
here.
We
appreciate
your
leadership
and
service
that
you
provide
our

Many
of
us
were
just
always
remembered
to
walk
the

and
continue
the
legacy
of

Last
but
not
least,
I
am
truly
proud
of
each
and
every
one
of
you
all
and
you
all
will
do
amazing
things
in
the
future.
Now,
when
you
walk
this
stage
and
get
your
diploma
walk
like
you
mean
it
because
you
earned
it
and
now
we
can
finally
say
we
made
it.

N
To
the
to
the
charleston
county
board
of
representatives
and
platform
guests,
our
lovely
school
principal,
mrs
cheryl
swinton,
our
assistant
principals,
including
my
good
friend
and
classmate,
alan
smith,
to
the
teachers
and
the
administrators,
even
some
former
teachers
and
administrators,
I
saw
mr
gilliard
here
a
little
while
ago.
I
know
he's
here:
I've
seen
my
former
teacher,
mr
lennard
mccloud
is
still
here,
holding
it
down
at
birth
to
the
alumni
class
of
1972.
N
N
N
N
She
prayed
for
it
and
she
did
all
she
could
as
a
parent
to
make
it
happen.
So
I
begin
today
by
honoring
her
and
also
honoring,
all
of
the
parents
and
the
grandparents
and
the
aunts
and
the
uncles
and
the
cousins
all
of
you
who
have
gathered
here
today
and
who
have
paved
the
way
for
today's
graduates.
I
commend
you:
let's
give
you
a
round
of
applause.
N
I
hope
that
you
will
all
continue
to
support
these
graduates.
I
hope
you
will
speak
power
into
their
lives.
I
hope
that
you
will
dream
big
dreams
for
them
and
hold
them
to
high
expectations
and
graduates.
I
hope
that
you
exceed
each
and
every
dream
they
have
for
you
in
preparation
for
today's
speech,
I
reflected
on
my
own
graduation
right
here
from
burke,
and
I
thought
about
all
the
other
graduations
that
I
either
participated
in
or
had
attended
over
the
years,
and
what
I
realized
is
that
I
don't
remember
anything
about
the
commencement
speaker.
N
N
So
this
remembrance-
or
maybe
I
should
say
this
lack
of
remembrance-
is
a
bit
unsettling
because
I
recognize
that
in
about
two
hours
you
might
not
remember
me
either
and
anticipation
of
that,
because
that's
probably
going
to
happen,
I'm
simply
going
to
cut
to
the
chase,
and
I'm
going
to
tell
you
what
I
want
you
to
remember
and
class
of
2022.
My
message
to
you
today
is
very
simple.
N
As
much
as
I
would
like
to
say
that
I
understand
and
know
what
it's
like
to
be
in
high
school
at
this
moment,
I
really
can't
say
that.
However,
I
do
know
that
experiencing
high
school
during
a
global
pandemic
probably
was
not
very
easy,
but
I'm
really
proud
of
you
all
for
pushing
through
that.
I
know
that
wasn't
easy,
but
you
pushed
through.
I
suspect
that
some
of
you
may
have
gotten
sick
or
you
may
have
had
loved
ones
who
got
sick.
N
N
N
N
We
held
doctors
and
scientists
in
our
community
in
high
esteem,
high
regard
when
they
gave
advice
or
prescribed
something
we
believed
them.
We
believed
what
we
heard
on
the
news
and
read
in
the
newspaper.
We
trusted
these
people
to
tell
us
the
truth,
whether
right
or
wrong
back
then
we
believed
in
these
things.
N
We
also
believed
that
our
churches
and
our
schools
were
safe.
In
fact,
we
believed
that
going
to
church
or
going
to
school
was
the
safest
place
to
be
in
school.
We
might
have
had
fire
drills
or
tornado
drills,
but
the
need
for
active,
shooter
drill
was
not
something
we
had
even
yet
conceived
and
back
then
we
also
believed,
in
god
the
words
and
god
we
trust
was
not
just
something
you
would
see
on
a
twenty
dollar
bill.
It
was
a
way
of
life
y'all.
N
Some
of
you
will
go
to
college.
Some
of
you
will
enter
into
a
training
or
job
apprenticeship
program.
Some
of
you
are
going
to
find
a
full-time
job.
Some,
as
we
saw,
are
going
to
go
into
the
military,
and
some
of
you
might
just
kind
of
be
unsure
about.
What's
coming
next,
whatever
path
you
take
whatever
path
you
take,
I
want
you
to
step
in
it
planning
not
to
be
good,
but
to
be
great,
prepare
yourselves
for
the
opportunities
that
will
come.
N
N
I
had
no
idea
that
I
would
leave
charleston
and
travel
the
world.
I
had
no
idea.
I
had
no
idea
one
day.
I'd
meet
president
obama,
a
ride
on
a
plane
with
the
first
lady
joe
biden.
I
had
no
idea
that
any
of
these
things
would
happen.
I
couldn't
see
it
back
then,
but
I
tell
you
one
thing:
I
did
start
preparing
for
it
right
here
at
burke,
high
school,
I
prepared
for
it
right
here
at
burke,
high
school
class
of
2022.
N
Don't
stop
believing
as
you
move
into
your
next
phase.
I
want
to
be
honest
and
share
with
you
that
you're
going
to
have
some
sunny
days
and
you're
going
to
have
some
cloudy
ones,
you're
going
to
have
some
hilltop
moments
and
you're
going
to
have
some
valleys
and
one
thing
I've
learned
along
the
way
is
that
life
is
gonna,
throw
you
some
punches
but
y'all
from
downtown
charleston
right,
so
y'all
know
how
to
fight
you
don't
know
how
to
fight.
N
N
N
We
need
young
people
who
have
respect
for
themselves
and
their
neighbors
and
who
want
to
actively
be
involved
in
making
their
communities
and
their
families
and
this
world
a
better
place.
We
need
young
people
who
believe
in
facts
and
who
are
willing
to
educate
themselves
about
what
is
real
and
what
is
true.
N
N
Communicating
and
staying
connected
has
never
been
easier,
and,
although
we
are
communicating
more
often,
we
are
showing
kindness
and
civility
less
often,
and
I'm
just
going
to
go
on
a
tangent
for
a
second
I'm
going
to
talk
a
little
bit
about
social
media.
Just
because
I
just
want
to
talk
about
that's
communicating
peace.
N
So
I'mma
be
honest,
I
like
social
media.
I
really
do
because
I
think
it
can
be
beneficial
when
used
appropriately,
but
a
lot
of
people
are
not
using
this
thing
appropriately,
and
I
want
to
declare
that's
not
just
the
young
people.
A
lot
of
really
old
people
are
acting
really
childish
on
social
media.
N
N
These
mean-spirited
behaviors
gain
momentum
online
and
then
they
quickly
spill
over
into
our
schools
and
our
communities
and
y'all
that's
got
to
stop.
We
got
to
stop
that
class
of
2022.
Don't
stop
believing
in
this
world.
You
are
going
to
find
that
there
are
some
things
that
you
can
control
and
then
they're
going
to
be
things
that
are
simply.
You
cannot
control,
and
I
encourage
you
to
seek
out
those
things
that
are
within
your
realm
of
control.
I
encourage
you
to
keep
learning.
N
N
N
When
you
see
something
going
wrong
in
our
community
people
being
mistreated,
children
going
to
school
and
not
learning
folks,
not
showing
respect.
If
you
see
something
say
something
in
this
instance,
you
do
not
have
the
right
to
remain
silent.
You
got
to
speak
up,
don't
stop
believing
class
of
2022.
N
N
N
Here
today
we
have
alumni
already
here
to
welcome
you.
We
have
my
class
class
and
91
is
here:
we've
got
the
class
of
1972.,
we
got
my
parents
class,
we
got
my
aunts
class,
we
got
my
brother's
class
65
61
69
83..
We
got
them
all
here,
somebody's
here
and
all
right
all
right
see
what
they
are
here.
They
are
here
and
they
are
here
because
we
are
here
to
welcome
you
because
we
love
you
because,
like
we
used
to
say
I
hope,
y'all
steal
status.
N
I
am
so
happy
to
be
one
of
the
first
people
to
officially
welcome
you
into
our
alumni
community.
We
are
scattered
all
over
this
world
and
when
we
see
each
other,
we
get
really
really
excited
and
because
I
am
a
bulldog
and
my
roots
run
deep
in
this
community.
I
know
what
we
used
to
believe
and
I
know
what
we
still
believe
and
what
we
still
believe
is
in
taking
care
of
each
other
and
class
of
2022.
N
N
I
want
you
to
remember
that
learning
does
not
stop
today.
In
fact,
learning
is
actually
just
beginning
remember
to
find
your
path,
not
somebody
else's
path
on
your
path
and
when
you
are
on
your
path,
don't
aspire
to
be
good
aspire
to
be
great,
remember
to
have
some
self-respect
and
respect
for
the
community
of
people
who
believe
in
you
and
most
of
all
class
of
2022.
N
O
So
good
afternoon,
everyone
and
congratulations
to
the
burke
high
school
class
of
2022..

The
term
valedictorian
distinguishes
the
individual
who
has
maintained
the
highest
overall
grade
point
average
over
a
four-year
high
school
career.
This
year's
valedictorian's
accomplishments
include
student
government
association,
president
health
occupation,
students
of
america,
student
athletic
trainer
for
football
basketball
and
track
volunteer
at
the

served
as
a

P
P
P
Mental
health
days
are
okay,
even
better
than
okay.
No
one
can
take
those
away
from
you
and
it's
okay
to
take
time
to
yourself
to
think
the
future
can
be
scary
and
throughout
school.
I've
seen
that
every
single
one
of
us
is
smart,
dedicated
and
a
thousand
percent
worthy
of
any
and
everything
in
closing,
you
should
know
what
we
are
capable
of
and
you'll
see
all
our
accomplishments
in
the
future.
