To
another
exciting
edition
of
CCSD
today,
I'm
your
host
Erica
Taylor
and,
during
this
show
we're
going
to
talk
to
our
full
release.
Mentors
who
support
our
teachers
they're,
going
to
tell
you
how
they
do
and
why
it's
so
important
for
them
to
do
what
they
do
to
support
our
first-year
teachers.
Stay
tuned,
we'll
be
right
back
I'm.
B
To
another
edition
of
CCSD
today,
I'm
your
host,
Erica
Taylor
and
joining
me
today
is
mrs.
Missy
Parrish,
with
the
office
of
teacher
effectiveness,
who's
going
to
talk
about
induction
and
mentoring.
Thank
you
for
joining
me
today.
Thank
you
for
having
me.
So,
let's
talk
about
induction
in
mentor.
What's
induction
an.
J
Induction
program
is
a
period
of
development
for
a
teacher
when
they
finish
their
first
there,
their
teacher
development
program
in
a
college
or
in
an
alternative
certification
program.
Then
their
first
year
for
first
full
year
in
the
classroom,
is
their
induction
year.
In
Charleston
County
we
have
to
induction
years
there's
an
induction
one
year,
which
is
their
first
year
in
a
school
and
the
second
year
immediately
following
okay.
B
J
Our
program,
we
have
an
event
called
great
teachers,
great
leaders
which
occurs
in
August
and
that's
a
big
event
with
about
300
teachers,
400
that
are
nearly
hired
to
the
district,
and
it's
a
welcome
from
our
superintendent
and
helps
us
focus
on
the
vision
of
the
district.
During
that
event,
our
teachers
go
out
on
buses
and
they
get
to
see
the
community
and
experience
the
where
their
students
are
going
to
be
playing
ball
and
going
to
the
mall
and
going
to
movies
is
a
great
opportunity
really
to
see
where
they're
going
to
be
working.
J
So
after
that,
then
we
offer
monthly
seminars
called
chattin
shoes
and
our
new
teachers
come
to
that
they
have
a
full
day
of
work,
and
then
they
come
to
that
in
the
evenings
and
during
that
it's
led
by
experienced
teachers
and
full
release
mentors
from
our
office,
and
we
help
them
focus
their
work
and
reflect
upon
what
they're
doing
in
their
classrooms.
That's
monthly.
In
addition
to
that,
they
receive
the
support
of
a
school-based
mentor
and
some
of
them
receive
a
school
basement
door
and
a
full
release
mentor
from
office.
J
B
J
So
one
of
the
things
we
see
with
new
teachers,
there
are
all
at
different
levels,
just
like
our
students
are
when
they're
coming
to
the
classroom.
Some
of
them
are
coming
in
with
some
experience
they
might
have
done
student
teaching
with
their
college
or
they
might
have
worked
in
a
school
before
as
an
assistant,
so
those
teachers
already
have
an
idea
of
what
teaching
looks
like
and
what
they
want
to
be
doing
in
their
classrooms.
J
Some
of
our
teachers
don't
have
all
that
experience,
but
have
a
real
passion
for
what
they're
doing
so
we
we
know
that
we
have
to
meet
those
teachers
where
they
are
and
then
a
system
to
get
to
where
they
want
to
be,
and
so
the
program
has
to
be
differentiated.
In
certain
degree,
some
of
it
is
universal
and
we
all
need
certain
things
at
the
beginning
of
the
year,
but
some
of
it
is
very
specific,
and
so
our
full
release
mentors
can
take
those
teachers
and
say
what
are
your
needs?
J
It's
not
something
that's
common
in
South
Carolina,
we
have
a
few
districts
in
South
Carolina
that
are
doing
it
as
well.
Beaufort
County.
Does
it
Richland?
Does
it
and
York
County?
Does
it
that
I'm
aware
of
we
have
four
full
release
mentors
right
now,
so
it
would
be
ideal
if
we
had
a
full
team
that
can
service
every
school,
because
we
have
anywhere
from
250
to
300
new
teachers
every
year
our
full
release
mentors
targeted
their
work
into
specific
schools,
and
we
base
that
on.
You
know
what
the
principal
needs.
J
Cases
so
the
second
year
support
is
more
school-based
support.
They
receive
an
informal
feedback
from
their
principal
or
an
assistant
principal.
They
do
that
near
one
as
well,
but
in
year
two
that
continues
and
the
the
teacher
decides
upon
reflection.
I
mean
a
little
extra
support.
They
would
call
on
one
of
our
full
release
mentors
and
these
guys
can
go
in
and
really
target
their
support
to
what
they
need.
Okay,.
J
Three,
we
hope
they
all
move
on
to
formal
evaluation
of
the
Adept
system
and
and
inch
Austin
County
right
now
in
South
Carolina.
That's
the
safety,
formal
evaluation,
so
we
hope,
with
two
years
of
really
strong
feedback
from
a
school
basement
or
full
release
mentor
and
an
administrator.
Those
teachers
are
ready
to
roll
for
safety.
B
J
B
Well,
thank
you
for
all
that
you
do
for
our
first.
Second
and
third,
plus
your
teachers,
I
know
that
they
appreciate
all
that
you
and
your
team
do
to
support
their
work
through
mentoring.
So
thank
you.
Stay
tuned,
we'll
be
back
with
more
CCSD
today
when
we
come
back
we'll
talk
to
some
of
those
Mentors.

The
law
firm
of
young
defendant
rivers
has
been
serving
the
Charleston
law
country
since
1968.
All
of
the
lawyers
of
young
women
rivers
are
proud
to
be
partners
with
the
Charleston
County
School
District.
We
are
convinced
that
the
hard
work
of
the
school
district
employees
and
staff
prepares
our
young
people
to
face
the
challenges
of
the
future.
We
look
forward
to
continuing
our
partnership
and
in
helping
the
school
district
to
meet
its
standard
of
excellence.

B
B
R
R
Normally,
you
have
to
fill
the
teacher
out
like
Missy
said
earlier.
Teachers
are
very
different,
just
like
our
students,
so
I
use
a
lot
of
differentiation
going
back
to
when
I
was
a
teacher
of
seeing
if
this
teacher
is
really
excelling
and
I
want
to
take
them
a
step
higher
or
if
that
teacher
really
needs
some
intensive
help,
and
we
do
very
the
help
based
upon
how
we
feel
the
teacher
is
moving
along
within
the
school
year.
R
R
And
it's
great
to
see
the
progress
when
you're
working
through
that
those
techniques,
because
you
see
the
teacher,
sometimes
especially
they
feel
helpless
like.
Why
did
I
do
this
job
I
didn't
know,
teaching
was
going
to
be
like
this
because
it's
totally
different
from
playing
school
when
you
were
a
kid
to
actually
having
a
classroom.
B
R
B
R
P
F
Just
made
it
easy,
it
is,
you
know,
it's
made
it
easy
and
the
kids
like.
P
S
T
Some
problems
are
tough,
reaching
your
customers
shouldn't
be
Blue,
Wave
and
Comcast
have
the
creative
edge
to
make
you
stand
out
from
the
crowd
and
connect
with
your
customers,
whether
you
need
a
commercial
for
television,
video
for
your
website
or
a
custom-made
website.
We
are
the
easy
solution
for
every
advertising
problem.
I'm.
B
U
Think
one
of
the
most
important
things
we
do
is
full
release.
Mentors
is
make
sure
that
we're
spending
our
time
in
the
schools
with
the
teachers
and
the
students,
because
what
we
know
about
student
achievement
is
the
most
important
piece
of
that
are
the
teachers
that
are
standing
in
front
of
those
kids.
And
so
we
really
try
to
focus
our
time,
energy
and
effort
there
in
the
schools
and
when
we're
talking
about
induction
teachers,
it's
their
very
first
experience.
U
U
We
use
a
formative
feedback
process
where
we're
working
together
with
teachers
to
analyze,
either
their
student
data
or
data
that's
connected
to
them
as
a
teacher
to
analyze
that
together
establish
a
goal
together
and
then
apply
it
to
the
classroom
and
then
revisit
that
goal
in
hopes
again
that
we
can
really
focus
on
teacher
effectiveness
and
grow
their
skills
in
their
induction
years.
Okay,.
U
That
varies,
teacher
to
teacher
some
teachers
are
really
focused
on
classroom
management.
They
may
have
come
from
a
background
where
they
didn't
get
a
lot
of
experience
with
developing
their
own
management
system,
so
a
goal
may
be
to
develop
a
positive
behavior
management
system.
Other
teachers
who
come
to
us
through
different
routes
or
who
have
had
experience
in
private
schools
or
other
avenues
may
be
ready
to
move
things
like
instructional
strategies,
so
a
goal
for
them
maybe
to
use
instructional
strategies
effectively
during
a
writer's
workshop
or
a
readers
workshop.
U
U
U
That
also
can
look
a
variety
of
ways
when
we're
talking
about
over
shoulder
coaching.
Some
teachers
prefer
that
you
actually
coach
with
them
real
time
in
their
classroom
and
perhaps
Co
teach
or
model
strategies
for
them.
Other
teachers
prefer
that
you
maybe
do
some
videoing
and
then
sit
down
with
them
and
review
the
video
together.
Both
of
those
ways
can
happen
over
the
shoulder,
as
we
say,
but
more
often
than
not
were
in
those
classrooms
spending
times
with
teachers
right
they're
over
their
shoulder
coaching
real
time,
while
their
students
are
actually
there
in
the.
B
U
They
have
such
a
large
task
in
front
of
them
for
an
entire
school
year,
but
even
just
the
day-to-day
interactions
of
their
school,
and
so
that's
the
other
thing
we're
doing
we're
supporting
our
new
teachers
and
help
developing
their
skills,
but
we're
also
supporting
our
administrators
and
their
efforts
to
grow
their
individual
teachers
again,
so
that
we
have
the
best
teachers
we
can
in
front
of
our
students
every
day.
Well,.

Q
B
Back
with
more
CCSD
today,
I'm
your
host,
Erica
Taylor
and
joining
me
now
is
the
principal
of
pepper,
Hill
elementary
school.
This
is
Tanya,
Underwood
and
she's,
going
to
talk
to
me
about
how
a
full
release
mentor
helps
support
her
first-year
teachers.
Thank
you
for
joining
us.
Thank
you
for
having
me.
So,
let's
talk
about
how
the
benefit,
if
you
will
of
the
full
release
mentors
being
in
your
school,
it's.
V
The
shoulder
coaching
and
support
to
the
teachers
is
so
so
wonderful
when,
when
administrators
go
in
and
support
the
teachers,
sometimes
it
can
be
a
little
bit
nerve-wracking
to
have
your
boss
there,
and
it
can
be
fearful
because
they
know
that
the
administrator
is
evaluative
and
the
mentors
are
not
evaluative.
They're
they're
in
a
coaching
role.
V
They're
there
to
support
they're
there
in
a
non
evaluative
way,
a
non-threatening
way
to
work
with
the
teachers
and
the
teachers
can
really
open
up
to
them
very
comfortably,
and
let
them
know
what
they're
struggling
with
and
get
help
with
that.
So
it's
a
great
program
for
them,
and
it
just
gives
them
that
confidence
boost
that
they
need
to
do
the
best
they
can.
What
and
how
does
that
help
you?
V
It
helps
me
a
great
deal
because
we
go
in
often
to
check
on
our
first-year
teachers,
but
sometimes
there
are
first-year
teachers
that
even
need
more
additional
support
and
with
a
school
of
fifty-five
teachers,
it's
hard
to
get
in
as
often
as
you
would
like
to
give
them
the
support.
So
we
like
to
give
them
help
from
administration
from
their
grade
level,
coaches,
their
teammates,
but
also
having
that
district
support
is
so
fabulous.
Well,
is
this
the
first
year
that
you've
had
a
coach
at
your
school?
V
This
is
actually
the
second
year
that
we
have
done
this
program,
and
it's
made
such
an
impact.
We've
even
seen
some
teachers
that
were
really
struggling
with
classroom
management
or
with
certain
teaching
techniques
really
come
around
and
get
to
the
point
where
their
models
in
those
areas
after
a
year
or
two
of
support
and
just
to
see
the
transformation
and
their
growth
professionally.
Just
tells
me
what
a
great
program
it
is
and
also
just
to
see
on
their
face
every
day,
the
the
increased
confidence
and
ability
and.
B
I,
probably
shouldn't
put
you
on
the
spot
to
ask
you
this
question,
but
I
am
going
to
ask
anyway
so
I'm,
an
advocate
for
our
full
release.
Mentors
and
I
know
that
we
only
have
four
and
we
need
more
if
you
had
to
share
with
me
viewers
mr.
Bobby
dr.
hearing
about
how
important
it
is
to
to
provide
some
more
support
to
that
area.
What
would
you
say
I
would.
V
U
V
Or
be
successful
enough
that
you
would
want
to
continue
their
contract
and
with
this
support
and
this
level
of
intense
support
over
the
shoulder
in
the
classroom,
non-evaluative
I
have
seen
teachers
go
from
a
place
where
we
were
maybe
a
little
uncomfortable
and
thinking
that
you
know
this
may
not
be
for
them
to
the
point
where
we
realized
that
they
are
a
wonderful
teacher
and
they
were
able
to
learn
from
the
experts
and
and
really
hone
their
skills
in
to
where
they
needed
to
be
to
be
successful
with
the
children.
Great.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
W
A
question
for
you:
what
does
this
look
like?
It
may
look
like
a
blank
screen,
but
it's
really
an
opportunity
for
you
to
reach
your
customers
with
a
great
television,
commercial,
video
for
your
website
or
website
design,
Comcast
and
Blue
Wave
productions
can
create
the
right
message
to
get.
You
noticed
call
today
and
take
the
opportunity
to
make
your
business
stand
out
from
the
crowd.
So
there.
