leaders

created
the
summer
teacher
residency
program
three
years
ago.
The
initiative
pairs
new
teachers
with
veteran
or
master
teachers
one
week
of
professional
development
and
training,
then
a
few
more
with
actual
hands-on
instruction
and
engagement
with
students.
I
would.
A
Definitely
say
the
master
teachers
did
a
great
job
of
modeling
stuff.
That
I
wasn't
certain
on.
So
like
not
throwing
me
in
to
the
line
Stan,
just
letting
me
see
it
first,
how
they
would
go
about
it
and
then,
if
I
had
something
that
I
maybe
wanted
to
add
to
it
twist
to
it,
they
were
very
willing
and
just
being
like
whatever
works
for
you,
Corey.

It
was
in
the
summer
there
wasn't
as
much
pressure
I
feel
like
I
got
more
out
of
it
to
really
try
different
models
and
say
we
worked
for
half
a
day,
so
the
in
the
afternoon.
We
could
really
reflect
on
ok,
these
models
work,
or
maybe
we
can
tweak
these
other
models
of
co-teaching
to
bring
into
a
classroom
this
year.

Doing
summer
work
with
children
in
schools
where
students
are
typically
behind
academically
and
we're
trying
to
close
the
achievement
gap,
but
we're
also
trying
to
retain
and
build
those
teachers,
so
they
don't
leave
the
profession
and,
more
importantly,
don't
leave
our
high
needs.
Schools,
I
can't
say
enough
about
how
impactful
and
how
important
that
is.

it's
not
just
the
younger
teachers
who
benefit
veterans
like
Lauren

of
Pinehurst
Elementary
gain
a
lot
as
well
out
of
22
master
teachers
who
have
been
a
part
of
it.

with

all
of
them
remain

E
Don't
think
much
can
happen
in
three
weeks,
but
just
the
confidence
and
lesson
planning
and
being
able
to
just
get
up
in
front
of
children,
even
though
you
know
they
probably
did
during
their
practicum
or
their
student
teaching,
but
being
able
to
do
in
the
summer
and
just
confidence
and
their
wording
and
even
on
between
the
first
day
and
then
two-three
weeks
later.
It's
just
it's
huge,
however,.
B
E
Much
I
learned
from
my
teacher
that
I
was
working
with
and
she
has
never
been
in
a
classroom
before
and
just
how
many
good
things
are
going
on,
because
there's
always
so
much
negative
in
the
news
and
working
with
such
passionate
teachers
that
have
this
love
for
children
and
education
and
want
it
to
grow.
