Either
both
the
high
school
internships
and
the
youth
apprenticeship
program,
it's
really
part
of
our
strategic
workforce
plan
to
bring
in
that
next
generation
of
workforce
and
who
better
to
start
with
in
our
than
our
high
school
kids.
We
want
to
make
sure
that
that
again,
the
parents,
the
students
and
the
guidance
counselor's
know
of
those,
because,
ideally,
what
that
does
that
create
the
best
talent
pool
that
we
can
draw
from
the.
A
District's
Career
and
Technology
education
department,
led
by
executive
director,
rich
Gordon,
is
doing
its
part
to
encourage
students
to
take
advantage
of
these
opportunities.
In
the
2009-2010
school
year,
16
percent
of
CCSD
high
school
students
participated
in
work
based
learning
experiences
that
would
range
from
apprenticeships
and
internships
to
structured
field
studies
and
job
shadowing.
The
participation
rate
was
up
to
48
percent
last
year.
It's.

Providing
them
with
not
just
some
of
those
academic
and
those
technical
skills
that
you
learn
on
the
job.
It
also
provides
them
with
some
of
those
soft
skills
reporting
to
work
on
time,
effective
communication
having
a
supervisor,
you
know
all
those
things
that
are
you
know
you
may
not
learn
in
the
math
or
science
class,
but
those
things
that
make
you
successful
in
the
real
world.
All
that
comes
together
and
a
nice
package
on
the
workplace,
lab
Gordon.
A
E
Really
truly
believe
that
work
based
learning
and
apprenticeship
is
the
way
to
go.
We
need
to
figure
out
all
those
logistical
barriers
and
all
those
those
walls
that
prevent
these
students
from
obtaining
these
experiences,
and
that's
what
really
my
job
is
to
make
sure
that
I
can.
You
know,
meet
that
demand
to
make
it
happen.
The.
A
Benefit
of
the
work
based
learning
experiences
continues
after
high
school
because
they
can
often
create
pathways
to
careers.
Steven
Madi
graduated
from
West
Ashley
High
School
last
year,
and
now
he
has
a
full-time
position
in
the
city
of
Charleston
information
technology
department.
Thanks
to
his
apprenticeship,
any.

A
Important
to
mention
students
in
the
Trident
region's
youth
apprenticeship
program
get
a
full
scholarship
for
classes
at
Trident
tech
thanks
to
the
Charleston
Metro
Chamber.
So
when
they
complete
the
program,
students
will
have
a
certificate
from
the
US
Department
of
Labor
and
credits
towards
an
associate's
degree
at
no
cost
to
the
student.
This
might
be
the
best
deal
around
in
secondary
education.
Really
we.
