April
24th
the
Charleston
County
School
District
Board
of
Trustees,
approved
the
creation
of
Early
College
High
School
for
the
2017
18
school
year.
So
to
give
our
community
a
better
understanding
of
how
this
model
works,
we
travel
to
Conway
to
see
Horry
County
Schools
Early
College
High
School
on
the
Horry
Georgetown
Technical
College
campus
EC
HS
has
been
in
operation
for
over
a
decade
they're
providing
the
opportunity
for
students
across
the
county
the
opportunity
to
receive
an
associate's
degree
along
with
their
high
school
diploma.
By
the
time
they
graduate
you're.
B
C
D
I
did
this
program.
I
would
be
so
far
ahead.
Of
average
high
school
students
and
I
would
have
college
credit
as
I'm
doing
high
school,
which
I
thought
was
amazing,
so
I
thought
it
would
save
me
a
lot
of
time,
a
lot
of
money
and
it's
a
great
experience
to
have
for
in
my
benefit,
so
I
thought
it
was
perfect
for
me,
freshman.
E
B
400
students
around
the
district
apply
each
year
and
the
school
selects
100
for
each
class
freshmen
stay
in
the
EC
HS
building
for
their
entire
first
year,
then
as
sophomores.
They
begin
to
take
classes
on
the
the
hgtc
campus.
Is
there
an
adjustment
period
for
the
students?
Yes,
but
thanks
to
advancement
in
dividual,
determination
or
avid
students
are
able
to
handle
the
workload
and
atmosphere.
D
When
I
first
came,
I
was
really
nervous,
because
this
school
is
on
a
college
campus.
So
I
was
a
little
bit
freaked
out
about,
like
you
know,
going
to
my
classes,
getting
lost
or
whatever
but
I
mean
after
a
year.
You
know
they'll
help
you
figure
everything
out
they're
here,
for
you
every
step
of
the
way,
we're.
B
The
most
important
part
of
the
experience
for
the
Early
College
High
School
students
is
to
gain
the
knowledge
and
rigor
of
what
it
takes
to
be
successful
in
a
college
classroom
and
to
get
that
two-year
degree
when
they
graduate
high
school.
But
another
important
part
of
this
experience
is
learning
how
to
navigate
a
college.
Campus
show
up
to
class
on
time
and
interact
with
college
students
from
all
ages.
I'm.
C
B
F
The
early
college,
we
also
have
an
advisory
and
those
students
become
your
family
and
we
follow
them
through
and
to
help
guide
them
throughout
their
time
here
from
ninth
grade
transitioning
them
into
those
college-level
classes.
So
you
not
only
are
just
the
kids,
don't
just
come
and
go.
You
actually
know
those
kids
so.
