A
B
I
wasn't
gavin
gatlin,
mr
ham,
but
we'll
we'll
get
started.
Thank
y'all
for
being
here
we'll
go
ahead
and
entertain
a
motion
to
go
into
closed
session.
For
the
items
listed
on
the
agenda
got
a
motion
got
a
second
all
in
favor
with
an
eye.
B
Okay,
six
o'clock:
we
can
go
ahead
and
start.
Thank
you
all
for
being
here.
We
appreciate
it
very
much.
We
will
begin.
B
I
think
we've
got
some
new
principles
here
soon,
we'll
get
to
a
little
while
dr
jacksonville.
Thank
you
all.
Thank
you
for
being
here.
For
that,
mr
ham,
would
you
take
the
next
item?
Please.
C
Before
a
moment
of
silence,
I'm
looking
around
the
room,
there
might
be
one
or
two
in
here.
That
remembers
this
in.
C
And
he
taught
at
pittsburgh
high
school
and
northwood
and
then
became
the
principal
of
northwood
and
then
the
year
I
came
to
start
teaching
here
in
first
grade.
C
He
hired
me
and
the
interviews
were
different
back
then
I
mean
he
knew
me
for
being
a
student
and
all-
and
I
looked
at
him-
I
said,
mr
burke:
do
you
really
want
to
hire
that
man?
C
Because
at
the
time
there
was
only
two
other
men
in
chatham
county
teaching
at
the
fifth
grade
level,
but
nothing
below
that.
So
he
says
I
I
think
I
know
you
and
I
know
where
your
mom
and
dad
live
so,
but
he
was.
He
was
a
great
man
and
put
forth
hit
30
years
and
plus
between
mr
burke
and
mr
brooks.
They
are.
C
The
walking
historians
of
pittsburgh
and
chatham
county
and
he'll
be
greatly
missed
and
made
a
big
difference
in
a
lot
of
people's
lives
and
need
to,
I
think,
and
his
his
his
wife
is
still
a
little
living
and
his
daughter
taught
for
us
for
over
30
years
too
joanne
and
she
followed
daddy's
footsteps,
teaching
social
studies.
C
So
that
was,
I
know,
a
treat
to
him
to
see
her
be
able
to
do
that
so
special
family
in
the
special
special
situation
and
as
always,
we
have
a
lot
of
other
things
going
on
world
and
our
country
that
we
need
to
be
mindful
of
and
prayerful
love.
So
let's
have
a
moment
of
silence.
B
Thank
you,
ms
lavrock
was
unable
to
be
here
tonight,
so
I
want
to
make
sure
I
mention
that.
Do
I
have
a
motion
to
adopt
the
agenda.
D
D
B
A
Good
evening,
mr
chair
and
thank
you
for
allowing
me
the
opportunity
tonight
to
introduce
our
new
who
have
come
on
board
and
I'll,
just
ask
them
to
stand
where
they
are
and
we'll
we'll
recognize
them
all.
At
the
end,
it's
my
privilege
to
introduce
to
you
miss
april
burko,
who
is
our
new
principal
at
jordan,
matthews
high
school,
dr
janice
giles,
who
took
over
north
chatham
and
about
mid-year
last
year
and
will
begin
we'll
be
beginning
her
first
full
year.
A
Miss
caroline
linker
principal
at
silk
hope
miss
nikki
merkerson,
our
current
assistant
principal
of
the
year,
who,
who
has
now
become
the
principal
at
bon
lee
school
and
we're
excited
about
her
starting
her
work
and
mr
landre
watson,
the
principal
at
pittsboro
elementary
school.
Mr
watson
joined
that
staff.
I
believe
in
may,
and
so
we
want
to
just
welcome
them
and
if
we
can,
let's
all.
B
A
This
chair,
I
would
also
like
to
introduce
our
two
district
level
administrators
who
are
filling
in
positions
here:
ms
michelle
burton
our
executive
director
for
secondary
education
and
cte,
and
ms
lashonda
hester
executive
director
for
middle
schools.
Let's
welcome
them.
E
C
I
told
mr
watson
a
while
ago,
I
said
y'all-
don't
get
any
extra
pay
for
being
here.
A
Yes
in
it
in
as
much
we,
we
welcome
them
all
to
the
team
and
look
forward
to
the
work
that
will
get
done
just
a
few
quick
announcements,
one
our
our
new
and
beginning
staff
orientation
started
today
and
thank
those
who
visited
with
us
as
we
welcomed
our
our
newest
staff.
Our
back-to-school
bash
is
august,
the
20th
that's
saturday
at
the
mosaic
park
area
on
15501,
we
have
a
bus
driver
orientation
that
starts
on
the
23rd
or
that
will
be
held
on
the
23rd.
A
A
The
first
day
of
school
is
august,
the
29th,
and
so
we
look
forward
to
having
our
youngsters
back.
I
had
the
opportunity
today
to
visit
with
the
students
at
the
science
and
engineering
program
and
those
students
started
school
last
week,
they're
doing
a
great
job,
they're
they're,
already
in
locked
and
loaded
and
doing
some
great
things
already
with
their
staff.
So
that
will
conclude
my
announcements
and
comments
for
the
evening.
But
thank
you,
mr
chair,
for
the
opportunity
to
do
this.
Work.
F
Good
evening,
mr
chairman,
members
of
the
board,
we
have,
for
you
just
a
short
enrollment
update,
as
you
know
this
time
of
year.
This
is
a
very
important
piece
of
information
that
helps
guide
our
work
as
we
plan
for
the
start
of
schools.
The
key
takeaway
this
evening
is
that
we
have
already
met
our
enrollment
projections
and
we're
swiftly
outpacing
that,
and
we
still
have
a
couple
of
weeks
before
school
begins.
F
If
you
can
pull
up
the
chart,
a
couple
of
reasons
that
this
is
particularly
important.
This
is
how
we
gauge
staffing
needs.
So
we
look
at
teacher
allocations.
This
is
how
we
look
at
class
sizes
as
well.
We
have
to
often
make
sure
that
each
of
our
classes
and
configurations
are
meeting
any
state
requirements.
This
is
also
how
we
look
at
technology
devices
curricular
software
as
we
pull
together,
materials,
science
kits
those
types
of
things
we
have
to
have
these
numbers
so
that
we
can
continue
to
get
ready
for
the
start
of
school.
F
F
The
second
column
has
our
projection
of
what
we
were
projected
to
be
at
and
then
you
see
a
difference
column
as
well,
and
we
peeled
out
kindergarten
on
the
end,
because
kindergarten
is
a
number
that
we
watch
closely
and
up
until
last
week.
That
was
a
number
that
was
looking
relatively
low,
but
in
the
last
week
it's
gone
up
quite
a
bit.
If
you'll
scroll
down,
you
can
see
there
that
already
we're
about
456
students
over
our
projection
and
the
number
in
green.
F
D
F
Actually
glad
you
said
that,
because
it
was
on
my
list-
and
I
skipped
it
so
there
is
an
error
on
this
sheet.
So
if
you
remember
the
the
way
that
we're
calculating
the
virtual
academy
this
year
is,
they
have
to
be
their
own
school
number
and
we
had
already
enrolled
the
high
school
students
in
their
schedule
under
chatham
central.
F
So
right
now,
you'll
see
83
students,
but
the
correct
number
is
124
and
some
of
those
are
k-8
around
83
and
then
9-12
has
about
41.,
and
we
may
see
that
number
change
a
little
bit.
But
for
the
most
part
we
cut
the
virtual
academy,
enrollment,
usually
a
little
bit
earlier,
just
because
it's
harder
to
get
them
into
the
platforms.
F
But
so
I
apologize
for
that
being
there,
but
we're
still
in
the
process
of
getting
the
kids
moved
out
of
chatham
central's
enrollment
into
the
new
school
number,
and
we
update
this
every
few
days
just
to
make
sure
that
all
of
the
different
moving
parts
of
the
district
everybody
has
access
so
that
they
can
see
kind
of
where
we
are
at
each
school.
F
It's
important
for
the
public
to
know
this
information
as
well,
because
this
is
one
of
the
reasons
we
often
have
to
reconfigure:
classrooms,
move,
kids
in
and
out
of
different
classrooms
or
collapse
a
grade
one,
because
we
want
to
make
sure
we're
meeting
those
state
requirements
of
class
sizes
and
two.
We
also
want
to
be
fiscally
responsible.
If
we
have
six
kids
in
a
classroom,
we
need
to
move
that
teacher
into
another
location
and
put
those
students
in
different
classrooms
and
that's
often
hard
for
families
and
for
students.
F
G
Mr
chair
members
of
the
board,
in
the
spring
semester,
we
entered
into
a
contractual
relationship
with
ess
to
assist
us
with
acquiring
substitutes,
a
recruitment
program,
and
then
they
handle
the
staffing
they
do
approximately
a
34
markup,
but
there's
still
savings
that
we
realize
in
taking
this
approach,
we
have
started
officially
the
school
year.
The
chatham
school
of
science
and
engineering
is
back,
so
we
need
to
have
a
bevy
of
substitutes
available,
and
I
just
wanted
to
share
very
briefly
with
you
where
we're
at
so.
G
They
are
ready
to
go,
there's
another
approximately
58
that
are
in
the
pipeline
that
can
be
added
into
this,
and
we
still
have
recruitment
efforts
from
ess
they'll
be
attending
the
back
to
school
bash
this
saturday.
So
I
have
a
table
there.
Anyone
in
the
audience,
please
I
encourage
you
to
visit
and
bring
someone
while
you're
there.
You
can
visit
me
and
I
can
talk
to
you
about
some
employment
opportunities.
B
G
D
And
I
assume
you
know
if
we
were
to
have
a
teacher
out
that
that
first
might
seem,
like
a
short
amount
of
time,
turns
into
a
long-range
substitution
assignment.
But
we
have
leeway
to
switch
someone
out,
and
sometimes
you
just
may
have
someone
that
you
need
in
the
immediate.
But
if
they're
ending
up
you
know
having
to
perform
more
instructional
duties
than
anticipated
that
we
might
be
able
to
switch
out
with
someone.
G
Absolutely
that's
a
great
question
so
when
we
have
long
term
whether
we
know
ahead
of
time
or
something
develops
in
that
fashion,
miss
norma
boone
who's,
our
title
2
coordinator.
She
then
is
able
to
step
in
and
just
help
coordinate
on
behalf
of
ess,
so
that
there's
a
little
more
thought
and
care
into
who
exactly
is
in
that
class.
A
A
B
Retention
recruitment
bonus
plan
up
today,
mr
messer,
dr
ben.
E
Thank
you,
mr
chairman,
members
of
the
board,
just
to
give
you
just
a
flashback
or
a
reminder
as
to
what
the
board
approved
back
in
march.
E
The
recruitment
part
of
the
plan
is
a
3500
bonus
to
licensed
employees
and
1500
for
classified
employees
who
choose
to
come
to
work
with
us
and,
along
with
that,
comes
a
two-year
commitment,
and
I
do
know
that
staff
is
taking
advantage
of
that.
The
retention
piece
of
it
is
the
3
750
bonus,
that's
going
to
be
paid
this
coming
september
and
those
are
will
be
paid
to
employees
that
return
for
the
following
school
year
that
were
important
before
june
30th
and
and
there's
a
one-year
commitment
to
the
end
of
the
school
year.
For
that.
E
Sir
payday
on
the
25th
of
september
and
then
the
referral
piece
of
it
is
a
75
000
budget,
which
is
when
an
employee
refers
a
new
employee
to
us,
they're
eligible
for
a
thousand
dollar
bonus
for
teachers
and
three
hundred
dollars
for
an
ia
and
250.
If
a
bus
driver
or
custodian
or
school
nutrition
employee
is
referred
to,
and
I
think
dr
batten
will
have
some
information
on
that
in
a
minute.
